Hey guys, been having an issue lately with my heater, randomly the controls stopped working and it will only blow out of the main vents, no defroster, or foot option. Sometimes it will randomly work, but pretty much I have no control over my heater, and being from colorado I definately need a defroster. Has anybody else had this issue, or have any ideas as to how i can fix it? thanks!
Not expert advice, but I had similar issue with mine - it wouldnt switch from one setting to another very well and was troublesome. I ran my fan (which I am trying to fix see post in the section!)on high as this seems to help the door actuate, and then spent twenty minutes switching the positions from one to another making sure the air flow was moving to each outlet before switching to next setting. This "exercise" seemed to cure my problem and I always swap positions whenever i drive heater or air con, I make sure to exercise them! Maybe I was lucky, or maybe this will help, good luck!
Actually it sounds like mode door one failure rather than blend door failure. If you don't know already, the HVAC doors and motors that control them in our trucks suck!! It's not so much a matter of if they will break but more a matter of when. The blend door controls the hot air/cool air mixture. Mode door one routes air from the main vents to the secondary part of the system. Mode door two is in the secondary part and routes air either to the floor or the defrost. Sounds like mode door one isn't working to me. The dealer will tell you that the dash has to be pulled to fix it but there is a company called heatertreater that makes a kit with detailed instuctions for repair and it's not terribly expensive. I haven't used them personally but I have read good things about them. You should check out their site and they also have some diagnostic vids on youtube.
