I thought it would be interesting to know what others paid for their trucks, maybe share some "buyer's tricks" on how you got that smoking deal, and possibly arm some perspective buyers with some knowledge before entering that jungle known as "The Dealership".

Let's try to be specific as to MSRP, any dealer discounts, rebates, and final sales price EXCLUDING any tax, license, or doc fees as they vary widely.

My truck is a 2012 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 crew cab.

MSRP $42,295
Dealer discount $6767
Rebates $4000
Final sales price $31,528

I got my deal by searching the internet and found the truck about 5 hours away from me. The internet is a great shopping tool! For a nearly identical truck my local dealer wanted $4,000 more.
Also I didn't pay the $179 for the "Nitro Fill" tires that was on "all" their vehicles and I was pretty hard nosed so they didn't even hit me up to pay for the "Paint Protectant" that had already been applied. Told them I wasn't paying for anything that wasn't clearly marked on the window sticker .. that ended that.

Let's hear your deal!

I got a hell of a deal on my 2012 2-door hemi. Dealer had managers special that day for 18,995. To have a hemi at that price. I jumped on it and in the last 4 months have put about $6,000 into it in mods. Check out my You Tube video and let me know what you all think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ThK7XTUE5M

Also most of you say you have 3.92 gears as did my 2010 however my 2012 has 3.55 and drive me crazy with the lack of off-the-line power. I have an appointment to get 4.10's installed next month. Hope that goes well

Did one of your brothers purchase the truck and then transfered the title/registration to you?

I ask because the Chrysler Group Employee Advantage does not offer "employee discounts" to immediate family members of employees.... just employees themselves. That's the impression I was under....

Also, and I stand to be corrected here, I was told Chrysler offers an Employee Price based on the vehicle as opposed to a flat percentage [1% over invoice] as just about all other manufacturers do. Correct?

What model do you have?

I ask because a [true] fully-loaded Laramie, for example, has a sticker of just over 50K.

There was another Laramie on the lot when I purchased mine. It really was fully-loaded and the sticker was - if I remember correctly - $52,760. I thought mine was loaded to the gills until I saw that one.

Depends a lot on how hefty the rebates were at the time of purchase.

This is true. Also it seems the rebates vary geograhically. Right now in California $3500 seems to be what everyone will qualify for and there are a couple more that most won't qualify for. I was able to get $3500 and an additional $500 military rebate.

I'm surprised and happy to hear that everyone seems to have gotten a fair deal and a couple of you got great deals! My past experience with Dodge sales were that they tried to stick it to you a little harder than the others. At least my local dealer. The salesman wanted to give me $12K less for my trade than what it was really worth (as a trade) and wanted $2500 more for the truck I was looking at than their own internet sales price was. They didn't have a truck I really wanted so they "built me one on paper" and told me the absolute lowest price they could sell it for and would barely make any money on the deal was $35.5K. I found a nearly identical truck 5 hours away and paid $4K less.

Not sure what you are asking. It shouldn't be too hard to buy a CC Sport 4x4 in Calgary.

If you read closely I've stated what it cost me. You and I both pay the same taxes so it's not hard to figure out the tax in figure. My business truck is a basic, no option 1500 ST 4x2 short box with a V6, not a CC Sport 4x4. Configure it here (http://www.ramtruck.ca/en/1500/overview).

Looks like I need to drive up to Canada for my next truck. Are these rebates only for Canadian residents. I went to several dealers in Wisconsin and the theme was invoice and $3,500 rebate. (about 6-7k off MSRP for Express Quad) What is the trick in getting below invoice, and how far below do you start with your offer.

Thanks for all the canadian pricing,

I went and test drove a 4X4 Sport Crew Cab. Excellent ride and love the interior. Salesman told me that he is willing to deal. Quoted me $36,000 to $37,000 plus GST. This is after the $9,500 discount. I told him it's still way too much. He told me if I am willing to go for the SLT trim, it will be much less expensive.

I told him that I would really like to have the Sport interior (bucket seats, black leather covered dash and floor/console shifter). So, he says he can find me a SLT with sport package upgrade. It will be cheaper than the actual 1500 Sport. I am not sure I believe him. I am not aware that the SLT can be upgraded to the sport interior. He says he will find one and show it to me on Monday. If he can find one and and it's around $34,000 plus GST, I am pretty sure that will be my new truck......

There are options on a SLT that you can get that is used in a sport but it won't be a sport
There are still differences many exterior looks and interior.

I ordered a 2012 Ram Big Horn crew 4x4 with the following options:
deep cherry red pearl paint, premium bench seats(I like to have room for 6 if needed), remote start /security system, protection group, anti spin rear differential,392 gears, rear window defrost(credit of -$150 over the power sliding rear window), 121 litre fuel tank,U connect voice command with bluetooth, ram box cargo management system, class iv hitch, trailer break control, spray in bedliner factory done.
I bought it out of town at Drumheller Chrysler because they quoted me the best price. Ask for Armand Tessier (owner) - they treated me very fairly, delivered as promised and didn't try to hit me with any extra fees. It's a family run business and they tend to treat you much better than the big dealerships do. I know that they have about 11 sport models in stock and 3 in transit, but after looking online at the way they are optioned they all retail for about $53805 , so are pretty much loaded. Most even have the sport performance hood which adds another $825 to them too. Have you looked at the Big Horn models ? They are cheaper by far:- but have cloth buckets instead of leather.
But come with chrome running boards,20" chrome clad wheels, fog lamps, luxury group, garage door opener, auto dim rear mirrors, leather steering wheel with audio controls, tow hooks and a light group.Very good value for your money.
They list a Big Horn at retail of $49705,4x4 crew, true blue pearl color, 430n media center, anti spin diff with 392 gears, trailer brake control, hitch, cloth buckets, rear camera, technology group, remote start too. I'm sure that you could likely get it in the range of 35400 or so. To see what they have online, go to the ram site, build they model you want, enter the postal code of T0J0J0 and it will show you what they have in stock. Hope this helps. Tell them Brad from the Hat sent you.......... but make sure to tell them you don't pay for documentation fees ! Good luck and let me know how you make out .

Dodge Canada (at least in NS) had a sale on $14,000 off sticker. It brought a basic sport (which comes pretty well equiped down to $31000 here. Now I'm not sure if that includes freight or not ($1500) but It's a good deal. I could of had a quad cab for $32,000 they had on the lot. I'd push for more than the 9750 factory rebate, they can do better if they want to deal, that's for sure!

I forgot to mention they threw in the nice rubber floor matts at the price I stated ($150 i think they would have cost.)

Interesting to see what 14 (more) years of inflation has done:

In 1998 I ordered a truck virtually identical to the one I have & the diesels were on back-order. Local dealer said come get your deposit back & I said get on the dealer locator & find one -- I used to work in the car/truck business & we did dealer trades all the time.

Evidently the salesman didn't want to work that hard & on a friend's recommendation I called another dealer about an hour & 1/2 away. Salesman there said fax me your order form & I'll see what I can find. He called back that evening & said I can't find a diesel with that blue color, but I've got a black one with all the equipment you ordered (Club Cab 2500, diesel, trailer tow, heavy duty everything, 4.10 limited-slip, windows, locks, tilt, cruise, etc.), come look @ it if you want.

Window sticker was just a little below $36,500 -- don't remember the exact $$$ and cents. Adjusted for inflation $36,500 in 1998 would be $51,462 today.

I said equipment is more important to me than color, go get the invoice & started dropping $100 bills on the desk -- cash purchase, no trade-in. Salesman came back with the sales manager who reminded me about diesels being on back order & I said I know -- give me the invoice. Dealer paid $29,997 for the truck, which would be $42,293 today.

They gave me the Dodge bed-liner I wanted & we settled @ $31,400 even (cash), which would be $44,271.11 today.

So (not counting the bed-liner) the dealer made a $1403 "gross" (profit) & in my mind I'd already allowed for a $1000 gross -- if the engines weren't on back order I'd have only paid a $500 gross.

1998 $$$
Sticker price $36,500
Dealer cost $29,997
Cash price $31,400

2012 $$$
Sticker price $51,462
Dealer cost $42,293
Cash price $44,271

My how things change.

My how things change.

Yes, they sure do! Although I feel like I always end up with a pretty good deal every time I go new truck shopping I think it takes 5 years off my life lol. I never trust what the dealer tells me they are making on the deal, or more likely how much they aren't making, and invoice price doesn't mean much to me either. My local dealer takes MSRP and then tacks on "added mark up" :4-dontknow: Although I shopped my deal before I signed papers with a few dealers they all told me I could never buy the truck for that price .. but I did. Internet shopping sure makes things alot easier and saves you some money. The last two trucks I bought I got right at 25% off MSRP

Just picked up a new 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Limited Laramie Longhorn last week.

Sticker was ~$57K, and I was out the door for $45.5K plus taxes.

I didn't negotiate as hard as I probably should have, but unfortunately I fell in love with the truck during the test drive... :smiley_thumbs_up:

On the other hand, you could have paid sticker and not be happy.
So it is a win/win

Many years ago I worked in the car/truck business, Ford, Lincoln-Mercury & Dodge trucks & one thing all salesmen will tell you is that the customers who gripe the most about their vehicles and/or how much they paid got the lowest price they could have gotten, and the customers who tell their family & friends how great the vehicle is & what a great deal they got paid window-sticker or close to it !! Just the opposite of what you'd think! But with some people, there's just no pleasing them, no matter how hard you try.:wow:

Wow the states definitely have better msrp prices!
My 2012 quad cab sport was 52k msrp, negotiated price was 33'500. I added extended warranty with free servicing til 100'000kms(an extra 2'500), loan insruance(an extra 2'000) plus tax and junk and my final out the door key in hand bill was 40k. Sadly I know nothing about my truck and what it actually has for extras as far as gearing and such so I for all I know they bs'd me on the msrp price. Time to get a build sheet from the stealership.

Negotiated Price before TTL: 29,700

There may have been a bit more wiggle room there, but they also gave me top dollar for my trade, a 2010 F-150 Super Crew FX4.

I considered the 2012 F-150 XLT 4x4 with the Ecoboost, but I just couldn't justify spending close to 4K more for the Ford.

I tow a good bit, but my new Ram with the 3.92 gears comes close to the F-150's capabilities.

I'm impressed with the Ram so far, and am getting better mpgs than I was with the 2010 F-150 5.4.

I highly recommend Akins Dodge/ Ford in Winder, GA if you're shopping for a new Ram or Ford....Jeep too.
This was the first time I've ever completed a car deal over the internet, and it was too easy. I was still able to negotiate, but in my own home while getting a back rub from the wife!
If you need a contact at their dealership, give me a shout and I will spit the referral fee with you!

2012 1500 Laramie CC 4x4
5.7L hemi with 730N radio, alpine with sub, 1yr sat radio, leather, all heated seats, ventilated front bucket seats, backup camera, and these options:

Class IV Receiver Hitch

P275/60R20 OWL AS
32 Gallon Fuel Tank
3.92 Rear Axle Ratio
Tow hooks/skid plates
Chrome powered towing mirrors
50-State Emissions
Quick Order Package 25H Laramie

$46475 msrp on window sticker
$41654 cash price on paperwork (additional rebate maybe ??)
$5100 trade in value
$4500 in rebates per the paperwork

out the door with TTL and keys in hand was $34,523 (would have been $750 less if I had not got the GAP insurance)

I traded in an 08 Silverado crew cab 4x4 w/5.3 (nicely optioned, but not LTZ), in excellent condition with less than 34k on it. It was sold off their lot before I even had 150 miles on the Ram.

You did the right thing. I got rid of my 2011 Ecoboost and bought the Ram. That should tell you something.

As for performance I'm not sure if it's true but I was told in the Mike Rowe videos Ford used 3.73 gears vs the Dodge 3.55 gears in the uphill tow race and then Ford 3.55 vs Dodge 3.92 in the fuel economy comparison.

My Ecoboost had tremendous low end power but the last 5 months I had it, it spent an average of one week per month in the shop.

*******...seeing these, I just got ****ED on my leftover '11 big horn crew 4x4.

:4-dontknow: Wasnt tracking I could get a new one for 29,900, I didnt even get close to that on the 1 year old (but still new) truck!

I got the gap, but no extra warranties. They were gonna go 3.99@ 84months, but then they saw my old truck was paid for. They gave me 20000 for that and went to 0% for 36 months at $500 a month on the remaining balance. Out the door after looking at the paperwork, with Gap, no extra warranties, and and taxes (10.5% here O_O ) title and liscense, I got it for 40k total including what I put down with my trade.

Oh well. I looked at the window sticker, and with the options listed it went for 42k before TTL and any other stuff originally, so maybe I didn't do too bad.

Damn some of you guys really dish out some money for a truck. A few of you are even in close range of my mortgage...

I just can't imagine spending more than $20-30k on ANY vehicle. Maybe if it served jack daniels and gave reach arounds.... lol

And I can't imagine what some people invest in their truck with mods. Buy a $60k truck, and put like $10k into mods....then a year later sell it/trade it and get $30k.

Sticker was $43K; Since it was the last '11 on the lot they dropped the sale price that day and paid $27K OTD.

Funny story. I saw the truck the weekend before on sale for $32K, thought about it, came back the following Saturday morning and the truck was out for a test drive with 2 others waiting in line for it. The salesman says the truck is on ad and its first come first serve. Truck was on sale for $27,990. My Father who drove me down said well if it's first come first serve, let’s do the paper work. Salesman said we can if you like. Started the paper work, crunched the numbers, gave a down to cover the TTL fees and brought it down to $27K.

Once the truck arrived back, the manager took the keys so the others couldn't drive it, took it around back to fuel it up and clean it. The couple that drove it figured they took it out back for them. The 2 others still waiting in line incase anything fell thru, then a 3rd person walks in for the same truck.

The manager comes back and gives the down payment back to the first couple and said sorry the truck sold as you were test driving it. As you can imagine, they were pissed, they asked well who bought it, I was behind them and said I did and hope you enjoyed the drive.

Went in to sign the papers, then they started trying to sell the alarm system at $900 and GAP at $850. I wasn't interested the 10 different times they asked me, each time dropping the price. I finally gave in when they said I can have both for $150. I said sold. So actual price was $27,150 OTD.

The first couple was still looking around as I was leaving, the guy said you wouldn’t want to sell it would ya, I said sure, it’s still brand new the sticker is $43K if interested. LOL.

What made you make the move over from the Ferds (I know how to spell it but choose not too ) to a RAM?
Besides the drive. Most loyal folks won't even buy another brand even if it was free

I'm a Ford refugee too. Been a Ford guy all my life. I bought a new F150 FX4 SuperCrew Ecoboost June 2011. Last Ford I'll ever own. I had a crap load of problems with it and Ford still hasn't found a remedy for the shudder/miss problem .. Check the F150 forum, there's a sticky there with about 174 pages. Truck was in the shop 5 weeks the last 5 months I owned it for various problems. Basically Ford Customer service(?) serviced me hahaha and told me to pizz off, so here I am. I would like to give a shout out to Mark Johnson, Ford Customer service manager for showing me how much Ford values it's customers and thank him for making me a Dodge owner.

2012 Ram Laramie Crew Cab Loaded without rear DVD sticker price $53,180 CAD. I used the chrysler advantage plan since I was eligible through my employer and got it for $39,534. It was was easy to shop for because I could build and price the truck online with the discounts applied and just printed off the build sheet for the truck that I wanted. No dickering or hidden costs. Made purchasing it a hassle free experience.

Since we're all confessing our Ford roots, this truck replaced a '97 F250 4X4 XLT extended cab with a 460 that I bought new. I was in the process of turning it into a sleeper/stop light racer, but realized it made sense to start with a new hemi. :naughty:

Congrtas on your new truck! You did get a good deal and it looks to me like they discounted your truck as much as they could and then overpaid (for a dealer) on your trade. I have seen people getting overpaid for their trade but not when the new vehicle is heavily discounted. I have purchased several new vehicles over the years and have never quite come to understand how a dealer arrives at his "rock bottom" price. When I was shopping I had a competeing dealer tell me there was no way I could buy my truck for the price I did. Even the dealer I bought from plays price games. I found my truck online and the dealer was offering $6767 off MSRP plus any rebates. When I was ready to pull the trigger their online discount went from 6767 to 4767. I was mad but they agreed to give me the 6767 discount they previously advertised. Now on the web site they are not even listing discounts on some of their vehicles.
I always seem to come out OK when I buy a new vehicle but I doubt I'll ever understand how the dealer arrives at his price.

I am a salesmen and i dont know where all the numbers end up all the time haha. We try not to play games at our dealership and it actually costs us a few deals here and there because some many people play the games.

What I do know on mine is i got all the discounts i could possibly get on the new one and considering my truck had about 750 dollars worth of paint work needing done, he overpayed by about 1500 bucks.

all of it was to hit our volume number. a week before he was going to give me 6500 for it if i traded it which is why i opted to sell it before he made me this deal. First dodge in my family ever and i love it 2000 miles into ownership. happy chevy convert here! and ive had several from ford and chevy come to the dodge side.

happy chevy convert here! and ive had several from ford and chevy come to the dodge side.

I'm a Ford convert .. was always a Ford guy until I bought a 2011 F150 Ecoboost
Since you're in sales what do you think of the 6767 discount I got? MSRP was $42xxx. I had dealers telling me that was impossible and below cost. Do dealers sometimes have inside promotions going on with the manf so they can do that? I bought mine towards the end of the month and end of the 2nd quarter but they actually raised prices during the last week of the month right before I bought mine. My local dealer wanted $4K more for an almost identical truck and said they were barely making any money on the deal. I'm just trying to make sense of it all but am still scratching my head over it. New vehicle prices have always interested me for some reason.

It sounds perfectly possible to me from MSRP. alot would depend on rebates and that goes by region. Certain dealers, like mine on how i got my deal sometimes get a bonus for selling so many so if you bought at the end of there month and they were pusing for a sale number, they could have given away the profit on your deal to make the retro money for all there sales.

for instance mine was a discount from MSRP of $8950 as a dealer employee which isnt a whole lot better of a discount. but thats denver region.

Just to clarify I got the $6,767 discount plus rebates of $4,000 for a total of $10,667 off of MSRP of $42,295
In my area $3500 was pretty much the standard rebates for everyone and I got another $500 for the military rebate.

That would still be possible just not as likely. For that to be actual the dealer prably gave away EVERYTHING unless stuff is priced different where your at. so like i said prably an end of the month deal to hit a number. Sounds like you got a smokin deal to me though if thats the case.

Don't beat yourself up. Lots of things come into play on pricing, region, incentives, dealer's motivation, inventory and more. I got a pretty good deal but I spent alot of time on the internet searching for it and just happened to catch the dealer at the right moment. Then I had to travel 6 hours one way to pick it up.
I looked at a Big Horn at my local dealer and they wouldn't go any lower than $34K.

2012 Ram Sport Reg Cab 4x4
Nav, EVIC, Alpine, all that crap

MSRP 37k or 40k, I dunno there were 2 papers in the truck
After tax/tags/etc. I financed 29k with 0 down and got 1.75% over 6 years, payments are 420/month.

*Mind you, the following is after 30 minutes of negotiating. I was on 3 hours of sleep and had not eaten in 20 hours*

My favorite part of negotiations was when I was holding firm at 420/month, and the sales manager was at 439 (he originally told me 507/month...LOL). He said, what if I can somehow come down to the 420's...like, say, 424, can you do THAT?

I said no. He was like, what!? 4 dollars a month? Why not!?

I said, "because if you can do 424/month, you can do 420."

He just looked at me with a blank stare and said, alright hold on a sec.

2 min later I got what I wanted

EDIT: I should also add that when I was signing all the financial documents, the business office lady told me my payments would be 427/month. I told her about our negotiations and she said, well the prices they give you out there are ballpark figures. I said I don't think so, I haven't signed anything I can still walk out. She got on the phone, then told me, "they'll delay your payments for 3 months". I said no I'm not falling for that. Shortly thereafter they lowered my interest rate from 2 to 1.75 to get my 420 payment.

Had I not been so damn cranky who knows what kind of crap deal I might have walked out with!!! Moral of the story: Be cranky as **** when you negotiate!!!

its awesome to see some of the deals you guys got on your trucks. overall I'm really happy with our purchase and absolutely love this truck. I would have liked to have gotten 4x4, crew cab, & ram box but when it came down to it I really looking at what I am using the truck for and this truck does more than I expected and though those options would have been nice, personally, I would have wasted $$ getting them.

maybe when I'm ready to upgrade trucks I ought to have some of you come with me!!!:smileup:

Best auto purchasing experience ever. I will never buy another vehicle inside the dealership again. No pressure, no getting worked over, all the info available about the vehicle at my finger tips. Buying over the internet is the only way to go. Do take screen shots of you conversation so when you do go to the dealership to pay and take possession of the vehicle they cannot pull a fast one on you.

Just got my 2012 1500 Express last week. So far very pleased with it. Huntington Beach Ram has got to be the cheapest place to buy a new Ram.... it was well worth the 4 hour drive for me. It's just a base truck with the Serious upgrade.

First off, I would like to thank the OP for this thread. I used it religiously over the last few months to have an idea of what would be 'fair' keeping in mind location and such.

My truck is a 2012 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 Crew Cab.
Every imaginable bell and whistle. (I can list specifics if requested.)
Includes Gap and 5 year windshield coverage.

MSRP $47,665
Trade-in $2000
Final Price/Amt Financed $40,400
Monthly $580 (I think)
Details: 4.5% for 84 months

Would have liked to have gotten a bit more for my trade (a '99 Tahoe that KBBd at $4400 in Fine condition being sold to a dealer). Much to my hubby's surprise, I almost walked away from this Laramie as their first offer on my trade was $1000. $1000! I was miffed from the start! But they came up to $2000 and threw in the spray in bed liner. So, I ended coming around as I have had my eyes on this truck since I first test drove it on 7/26/12. I even freaked out when it wasn't on their lot anymore (I would admire it while driving past and one day it wasn't where it had been). I quickly calmed down when I found it in their lot across street - dealer told me the following week that they got bored one day and had a lot swap party and brought all of their Fords to the main lot, pushing the Rams to the other.

Just doing email requests, the dealer is offering 8600 of on a 2500 priced at 47K and 9500 off on a 1500 priced 43k though looks like the 1500 I inquired about was sold. Funny they are offering more off on the 1500. Wonder how much more I could get off if I actually went in. I have to resist the urge as I just bought my truck just over a year ago, though I wish I gotten some more options then I did. Sure I could get atleast 2-3k equity on my current truck.

In British Columbia here and two weeks ago picked up a new 2012 Ram 1500 Crew Cab Outdoorsman edition, extra's other than the goodies that came with Outdoorsman package (LSD, Heavy Duty Shocks, Trailer tow package, Skid Plates, etc) included remote start, a luxury group I cannot remember but gave me nicer cloth seats, U connect, leather wrapped wheel. Sticker price was $50,995 and I received $9500 in chrysler rebates after jewing down the dealer I got them to $34000 with no trade in. I did this by shopping around a bit first, when I got to this specific dealer that had the color I wanted I just told him that I have shopped around and to give me there best price. I paid an extra $2000 on top of the $34,000 to upgrade the tires and get the levelling kit installed. So if anyone in BC wants to buy I 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited I have one for sale as I did not trade it in.

I just purchased my first truck in 20 years. I got a new 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew Cab. Sticker was $38,806 and I got it for $27,802 before tax. I actually wanted to get a really GOOD deal on a used one they had, but they would not come off of the asking price of $24,500 for a standard Big Horn. The new one that I bought came with Luxury Group, Technology Group, Hemi, Chrome Side Steps, Remote Start, Uconnect 430 with 40 GB hard drive, upgraded tires and wheels, and back up camera. I spent about a week working with a couple of dealers and feel pretty good about the amount of truck that I got for this price.

So that was in the neighborhood of around 9K off the truck (26,300-26,500 ish). But the deals did not stop there, I got most my accessories at a huge discount (Huge for a Dodge dealer) of 12% off and they installed everything but the Elec. Tailgate lock for free (That included my Running Boards, Drop in under-the-rail Bedliner, Back Up camera, F/R Splash Guards and the Mopar bug shield). Somewhere in the range of 9.5-10 hours labor and I only paid for 2hours. 8 (or so) free hours of labor @ $117 an hour, NICE!!! Also sported me a full tank of gas, 26 gal. of 89 octane. At $4+ a gallon. So a good $1000 in savings on top of that 9K off, that was a good deal. I searched a good 200 mile radius from Los Angeles. In fact, talking with the Tech./Mechanic at my dealer, he has warmed up to me, he offered to install the Mopar CAI for free if I do the CAI and Cat Backs at the same time. I'm all about using MOPAR parts when and where I can so they are still giving me great deals.

Talked to many dealers and made a few bids. It was a toss up between San Diego and LA. LA was only 12 miles from home, San Diego Dealer was a good 2 hour drive, and the truck had more options I wanted. Plus, the LA dealer beat the SD dealer by a couple hundred bucks, measuring truck to truck and option to option. So, that was a no brainer. The truck I wanted, close to home at the best price offered to me. Some may have done better BUT they are not in Los Angeles or a 200 mile surrounding area. Tax here is 9%.

I feel good with my deal and I'm still getting the 12% off from the parts department (CAI, Cat Back SYS...). The dealer is FANTASTIC and a pleasure to deal with. I could not be any happier to tell you the truth...

Just got mine in the fall.
08 Ram 1500 sxt, quad cab, 5.7L Hemi, 4x4, power window, locks, heated mirrors, tri-fold soft tonneau cover (was for a f250 ext cab, so overhung by like an inch or 2, so I sold it and bought a proper fitting one)
Had 122,000 km on it, Also knew that this truck was always maintained regularly minus getting proper detailing done (but I dedicated a day to fully detailing every inch of it, including shampooing and fabric protection.
Bone stock in the mod section.
Got it for $9,500. (It was one of my dads work trucks, but was too small to be used for hauling trailers minus the small ones for hauling to RV shows.)
All in all.. I got a truck with everything I need (minus mods) at a solid price.

I picked up my 2012 Power Wagon for about $38k - The sticker price was $51900. It is fully loaded with all the interior ammenities - 9 speaker alpine, dvd, uconnect, nav powered seats, back up cam the whole nine yards - the only thing it doesnt have which will bother me is the rambox - that is a sweet option and anyone who id going to order their truck should definatey get this option - although i dont know how much the upchrge is. Anyway - I had an 06 2500 4x4 with a 2" lift and MT's on it - brush guard KC's and all - it was a great truck so it put me in the drivers seat to make the deal - even though I wanted the Power Wagon I was doping just fine with the 06. The dealer took $10k off the sticker price and gave me $18k on my trade - I couldnt walk away from that deal but it toook about 4 hrs of going back and forth and me threatening to leave to thingk about it - never accept the first three deals they offer - get up from the table - thank them - ad tell them you will think about it - They DO NOT want you to leave - I heard that 80% of prospective buyers that leave to "think about it" never return - any car dealer will tell you it is their job to make the deal happen THAT day because you probably wont come back - just try to leave and you will see what I mean. As far as aftermarket warranties you have to be very careful - never accept the first offer on these either - typically you dont even want them but when they offered me the platinum protection - true bumper to bumper ( I have already tested it :-) with free service for all maint items (brakes, oil changes etc.) for 3 years at $20 bucks a month I couldnt say no.

After a week of looking for a 2013 1500 v6 crew with power seats, we found out through the awesome lady at AutoNation it's not a standard build option. We'd have to custom order.

We lucked out finding a loss leader 2012 2500 Crew Big Horn for 39K, at a dealership 80 miles away. Sticker was $53k. Bye bye Element with the crappy brakes.

How about posting up your invoice from the dealer? That means you paid roughly $35,700 + tax for your truck that had an MSRP of $53,700???

2012 RAM 1500 Sport Quad Cab
Only options I didn't get were RAMbox and tow mirrors, got every other option as it was on the lot.
MRSP: $54K
Trade in $3K (2004 Ford Ranger)
Discounts - $10,000 rebate + Employee discount (related to a retiree)
Out the door - $35K including tax.

I all honesty I really didn't have to haggle that hard to get it for that. They basically kept coming back saying oh we can add save the freight and there is another $1000 off for this and another $1000 off for that and by the time he added the tax I was out the door at $35K. He was happy and I was ecstatic! Those are CANADIAN dollars.

I went in to buy a base with a couple options and walked out with that. They had over 100 RAM's on the lots in July 12' and he probably needed them gone. I used to live in Windsor, Ontario where it is called the Automotive Capital of Canada and I know several people who would get ridiculous amounts off by pitting the dealerships against each other.

I thought this would be a good forum I could post intelligently about. I own my own business and negotiating a price for a truck is quite on the light side of what I do both in intensity of negotiation and price. That being said when negotiating ANYTHING your best two allies are research and timing.
In December of 2012 I decided I was going to buy a full size truck of some kind (not a brand loyal kind of guy but rather a best vehicle for the application). My budget was between 28-32k. For that I wanted a full size truck with everything but leather seats and a sunroof.
First order of business: Research all trucks on websites and get their MSRP then go to each dealership and see what they had on the lot and test drive each one. Of course on this first visit the salesmen don't want you to leave and they on their own start dropping prices as soon they know you are leaving without a purchase. No matter what, LEAVE! The lowest deal will still be valid the next day, week, etc. Trust me.
Next go home and pick a truck you like and what features you could live without or cannot or just desire. For me I was teetering with 4x4 or not, but ultimately decided it was not needed. (The computer does a fine job in adjusting on snow, ice, mud, sand, etc. after one year of testing it in all the above.) This is just a personal choice since the height is and will always be stock and so far there has not been one boat launch my RAM has not pulled my 21 foot bay boat out with ease. Getting back on track, I wanted EVERYTHING but leather seats and a sun roof. (leather seats are too hot for Louisiana and I have never met a sunroof that didn’t leak after a few years.)
I of course picked the RAM and found a nice stock Big Horn edition with the Alpine radio/nav package, spray bed liner, paint protectant, heavy tow package, side bars, and a few other things I think come with all Big Horns.
Dealer best price was about 35k after all the rebates, incentives, etc. they had. (I cannot remember what MSRP or sticker price was and don’t really care since it is a useless baseline number) As stated about my budget was 32k at the highest. Could I have afforded more? Sure, but that kind of defeats the point of having a budget doesn’t it? After sitting down and going over everything, the salesman making a written offer, etc. We got to the financing part. This is where timing comes in. After going through the motions with the financing manager, I simply came to the conclusion it was just too much a month for me to pay therefore I would have to pass on the deal. I walked over to the salesman, thanked him for his time and walked out of the door before he could react. Walked out to my truck (not the Dodge) lit a cigarette and counted to 20. At 12, the salesman came running out.
He asked if there was anything that could be done to salvage the deal. I said I didn’t think so because I doubt he could get me out of the door at 31k . He told me to give him 5 minutes. I did. The dealership owner came out and said the best he could do was 31.5 but he would throw in the first 4 oil changes and 20k maintenance. Being a decent poker player, I kept a straight face, looked down as if in deep thought, and agreed. 31,500 out the door.

Side note: The next day I walked into the dealership with a check for the full balance of the truck. The bank did not even get one day of interest from me! 14 months later, I still love my truck!

Here in Canada, Chrysler does not finance their own vehicles and will finance your truck through various banks but I am not sure if this is the same in the USA

Although the OP did not directly state that he ultimately financed the deal and signed all legal papers the day before. If he did, would he not be taking the check to the financing bank that holds the loan instead of walking into the dealer if Chrysler USA does not offer direct financing like Canada and has no legal interest in the loan?

Flew into dealership city the morning before Thanksgiving, was on the road headed home an hour or so later in my brand new Ram. Great break-in freeway miles and an overnight stay at small casino on the way home...... made Dodge Ram love with the wife too. Great, first Brand New truck purchase experience @ 42 years old.....better late, then never :).

What surprised me is they never ran the check. I said "aren't you going to check bank for funds"...."no, you dont get the title until the check clears, beside..... its serious consequences for you if it doesn't clear" he said. Seemed like a risky move for an out of towner like me, I was amazed they let $29,000 go out the door and across the states so easily.
