Am i correct when i say on my 03 ram with the 4.7 that the thermostat is in the lower radiator hose as opposed to the upper gonna replace this saturday, want to make sure of location first thanjs guys?
You're correct, it's in the lower radiator hose on the engine end. Undo the two bolts from the housing and pull it off. Look how the old one is installed so you can put the new one in the same direction.
Bear in mind you're likely to drown when you pull the lower hose even if you drain the radiator first. You might want to have some extra coolant handy because recovering it all in a drain pan can be difficult. These engines are notoriously hard to bleed the air out of, even with the bleeder plug on the engine side of the upper hose removed. My suggestion is to remove the cap and plug and use a trans funnel to fill the cooling system through the plug until the radiator is full. I've had the best luck going this route if a vacuum lift pump isnt available.
