ok, had intermittent issue where a/c at idle would stop cooling followed by a hiss in the passenger side - idle would get rough
-a/c has good charge
same problem, again intermittent. noticed condenser motor doesn't turn, spun blade and motor kicked in. thinking the motor was going bad i replaced it - semi truck a/c mechanic friend of mine takes gauges to truck, charge is good
cooled for a little, fan chugging away... then - same problem only not intermittent anymore. compressor cycling, rough idle, hissing from passenger side, condenser motor will not spin. relays good, fuses good
on the high side line, there is the pressure transducer. there is a film of refrigerant oil on it, seems to be seeping from seam on the metal part of switch.
should i look to this as the culprit - will it cause condenser motor to get no power. at a complete loss, am i to admit defeat and bring it to a shop?
Fuse 12 in the IPM powers the 30 and 85 terminals of the condenser fan relay. The PCM controls the relay on the 86 terminal and power is sent to the fan via the 87 terminal and the fan has a chassis ground. You need to check the operation of the relay and PCM first.
well, the truck beat me - the new condenser motor died, brand new motor
having a guy install the new assembly from mopar as well as charge the system to all the appropriate levels. on my way to pick it up in a few...
Mine went out recently as well......100,000mile elite wrap warranty, it goes out at 107k. $700 and some change later, cooling, but not like it used to be. I guess the whole recover/recharge thing was done improperly. Not as much put back in, or possibly too much, who knows...
the motor can be put in without evacuating the system - when the truck was at the shop, i opted for the oem unit. we had been playing with the freon so i also had them do an ac service - out the door was 375
Well it's what I figured, and this was at a Dodge dealer (Not my regular dealer btw). I couldn't see why they had to do the recover/recharge either, and on top of that, they replaced the condenser motor SHROUD??? WTF?
Needless to say, my Ram or SRT8 will not be going to them for any service whatsoever while I am here in Florida. I will make the drive to the next town....
I forgot, I did have an injector service done at the same time.....
the motor and shroud are a new design which is why they probably changed both.
on the stock shroud there is a piece of plastic that the ac line runs through making removal without evacuating impossible. if you cut the plastic part out, the shroud comes out without havng to do that. the factory condenser motor comes out with the shroud.
the motor kit my shop got had the motor, shroud and new fan blade (68004163ab)
The only reason I can see for an evac and recharge is to verify the 134a level but I wouldn't have done that unless it still wasn't cooling after the fan was repaired. They should have replaced the fan and then performed a cool down test.
I told them that it cools perfect while driving, just blows warm when stopped. Like I said, since the recharge, I do notice it's not cooling as well as it did before, but it is cooling. I guess I can't complain too much. It has been very hot here in Florida, so at the time I probably would have paid whatever they wanted.
BTW Randy, thanks again for the build sheet on the Chally.
