I am having some A/C problems maybe someone could help with, It will blow normal and cold on the passenger side but blows warm on the drivers side it is non climate control unit and both sides blow hard
It has 82k on it and no recent service i noticed at the end of last year but did not think that much of it going into winter but when i turned it on this April it was blowing warm again but it was just a couple weeks ago i noticed it was cold on the passenger side as i dont normally sit over there
Bhoman10 many of us don't know just what to look for when it comes to issues like this
it may very well be something you can fix yourself, but if you know what to look for, you can either decide what needs to be done & by who
these videos are for older vehicles than yours, but they don't change much over the years, these are you tube videos by Heatertreater, there are at least 3 of them http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=heatertreater+dodge&aq=f
Bohman10, I am having the same problem. Mine blows cold on driver side but warm on passenger side. I sometimes hear a loud thud sound when i turn my ac on when i first get in truck. I suspect one of my blend doors is broke. I hope i can get this fixed since it is gonna be 110 degrees hear all week. Will update when i find out more so i hope it will help us both out.
Just joined the forum to help fix my Dad's truck. We have the exact same problem. Our truck is an 05 2500 with the dual zone climate control. Did you get your problem solved?
I am also having the same problem. I don't do a lot of automotive A/C but I do work on Diesel truck A/C pretty much the same thing. I'm not sure at first I thought one of my damper doors was not working properly, but they all are. (i completely took apart the dash) I did open the hood and watched line after the orifice tube. Completely iced up. which tells me it is most likely low on refrigerant. when I installed my gauges my compressor was cutting off and on, on low pressure. after reading the forums my truck has the same exact problems and yours. cooler on the drivers side, and warm on the passenger side. I would like to know if for some reason the cooler air only makes it to the drivers side before the passengers side because of the low charge.. I am going to bring home a recovery machine/ vacuum pump tomorrow and figure out what exactly is going on. Just wondering if anyone had gotten this far?
Follow up to my problem. It turns out is was low on R134 which caused it to blow slightly warm on the passenger side, but cold on the drivers side. Works great now!
I got the same problem as Dano on my 2005 3500. Cold on driver, warmer on passenger...sometimes seems to get cooler as I drive on that side so hopefully I'm just low on R134 cause I really don't want to tear the dash apart and fix a damper but if I do it will be to upgrade with heatertreater.com (I've heard a lot about them on these forums and elsewhere and the seem to fix what dodge did wrong i.e. better material).
I had a similar issue with my 2004 1500 where the recirculation damper broke and it just felt like air was trickling out and after removing the blower under the passenger dash sure enough there was a damper laying right across it and I had to fish it out..
Is enough gas in it? Should be the firs first thing to check. A lot of a/c doing this, with dual system if not enough gas is in it. You don't see it by checking pressure. Evacuating and refilling and also watch the gsuges. They indicates a problem how they mive, too, if there is one.
Try and see.
Below is a thread I posted just a bit ago before I read you alls. Is it logical for me to think that if my passenger side vents (the side blowing far less cool) are still blowing full strength (just not cool), that I don't have a broken recirc damper vent?
Me to!!! My a/c system works great but...the two dash vents on the passenger side blow significantly less cooler air then the two drivers side vents. Which tells me its a plumbing problem. My dealer tells me it will take $1,000 worth of labor costs to pull the dash and investigate the problem. Has anyone experienced this kind of problem? Over the past year or so, whenever I turn the a/c system button on, I hear an "pop" sound beneath the car. I assumed that I some kind of valve opening. Now i'm assuming that sound has progressed to a sticking valve of some sort. Any suggestions or insight?
I have the same issues with my 06. Single temp control, pass/side not as cold. and the "pop" underneath on initial start up of the day or when it sits while at work. Any info about this??
I've been hearing the thud the last while too, doesn't matter whether I am in heating or cooling, nor the direction of where I want the airflow to travel... I'm assuming its a sticking blend door under the dash, but it really whomps when it closes or opens! Today for the first time I noticed that my A/C didn't seem to be working quite right... clutch was not kicking on and off though which would indicate a low charge. I was thinking that I have a plugged cabin air filter. Does anyone know if we have cabin air filters in our Rams?
Well a low charge will definately make the compressor not turn on .The way it sounds in your post, you think that the cabin filter will prevent the compressor from kicking on. All the cabin filter does is filter the air going into the evaporator to help prevent it from clogging up.
For what it's worth; When I talked to Chris from Heater Treater, he mentioned a lot of rams having this problem exactly. He said the issue is generally the truck needing more refrigerant (r134.)
The flow of the air is not perfect in the rams hvac setup and if the refrigerant is set to exact oem specs (generally done by a computer these days) it may not be enough to evenly cool the system.
I cannot verify the validity of that statement, but I know that was the case for me with my heater core not heating evenly and per their instructions I fixed that rather easily.
Holy thread resurrection Batman!!! Sorry i brought up an old thread, I just joined and I I have had this issue doer the entire life of my rig and the dealer told me that this is NORMAL!! Yikes...
He even showed me a paper from star tech that said a 15 to 20 degree variance between passenger and driver is within their spec.
Naturally I called bs and said I don't care that you consider it "in spec", this is not ok. It blows 75 to 80 degrees while the drivers is a 60, that is not normal.
They replied that the freon is within specs and showed me their report. They should issue a recall or a tsb or something...
Heatertreater or whatever his name is shows you tube videos about the warm passenger side with cold driver side issue.
I just started have the same issue as the original poster. Opposite of everyone else. Driver side is warm, passenger side cold. Loud thump too. I don't hear my compressor kicking on and off, but the passenger side is cold! All vents blow hard, just driver two are warm/hot!
Anyone find this exact issue and have it repaired? I will update when I figure it out. Taking my truck to a couple shops this week.
Ok...took my truck to a local reputable a/c company. Turns out I was low on freon, but because I have a leak in my evaporator. Worst freaking place to have a leak! Entire dash has to come out to replace it.
I just added some leak sealant and freon(in one can) and it is blowing cold again on both sides. I'll just bandaid it for now. I'm not paying the $1200 price they want to change it out. When I get some time, or when summer is over, I'll dig into changing it out myself.
Dont want to beat this thread to death but:
I have had the pleasure of my blend doors failing twice, about 4 years apart. The first one i threw a fit at the dealer and Chrysler paid for the entire job! About $1000 in those days. Second time happened in AZ summer and that job was about $800. Most likely that is what all of you are experiencing. So far it has been good for 5 or 6 yrs, and I also have a slow refrig. leak for past 10 years. It isn't bad enough to fix it...
If you have the patience and skill/tools you can do this fix yourself. Yes the entire dash must come out.
I know this is an old thread, but Im having the same issue and I didnt see a 100% fix or theory on what exactly is happening.
When I first start the truck (03 2500 Diesel) I get the thud under the truck. Then after a few min the passenger side vents no longer blow cold. On a long trip last weekend in over 100 degree temp I also started hearing a noise from the fan only when it was on high. Every time I stopped for a bathroom break and turned off the truck for 5 or 10 min the AC worked normal again for 10 to 15 min. Then the passenger side wouldn't blow as cold and the fan speed would decrease by itself.
What is the thud under the truck?
Could it really just be low on 134a?
Do I have a blend door that closes after running for awhile?
Is this a electrical module or blower motor that is failing?
So I have the same problem with blowing Ice cold on driver side and warm on passenger. I will look into the freon to see if I am low. I have another problem though, I am not getting any hot air when the heat is on. I tried it on all settings and seems to be floor vents blow warm air. My main concern is the defrost. I have zero hot air. When you switch from cold to hot on the temperature knob I can feel a burst of hot air for a second them goes away. Any ideas? I'm thinking blend door or heater core. Have not done a heater core backward flush yet. Also just got a coolant flush and it seems like it got a little worse. Fall is coming so I need to do something soon.
So I have a 08 Dodge 2500 Laramie Mega, 220k miles. The cab was NOT cooling at all in the S. TEXAS heat.
I replaced the Resistor Blower Motor (the only place that sold the part that matched and fit was Advanced Auto Parts) and the passenger side is cold as shyt now, driver side still warm.
Tomorrow will be adding R134 to see if that works. If not, then going to try the damper doors, but really don't want to get into my dash at all.
