been away for awhile but it worked out great, i have to re-route some of the wires as im not completely happy with it as is. other than that im loving it!! i still have alot of lighting work to do, but moving to a new place happened, so once things are settled ill get back to it. thanks again for the insperation.
thanks allot kurtis. i have the distribution blocks, ill have to find a relay and all should go well. i guess the rattle can job i did should last then i've been kinda leery about it but everything i sprayed was cleaned real good had adhesion promoter put on it and clear coated. thanks again for the help kurtis
Oh, I should mention that the wires off the 97 terminals are +, so you need to run the - wire from the LEDs to a ground somewhere. Also, the dome light has a fade feature which will make your relay rattle as it powers down, you can solve this by adding a small capacitor to the dome light relay line before the relay. My frined gave me the relay so I don't know much about it.
As for the sunburst orange: it is a rattle can paint that I got from the dealership, but as I've heard, a parts shop can mix you up a batch and put it into cans a lot cheaper than the dealership. Just make sure you use an adhesion promoter before the paint or it doesn't stick well. The black is the Duplicolor vinyl dye I picked up at my local auto store, and use the promoter as well so it doesn't rub off like mine did in spots.
Hey there brian. Pirate away, I love the door light mod and I'm sure you will too Besides, imitation is the highest form of flattery, right? Now, to answer your questions: I hooked the trigger wire (30) to the dome light, ran the + off the battery to the (86) terminal, and the (85) I wired to a common ground (doesn't matter which order you do this in). Now, I used a double pole single throw relay, so I could have all my interior lights off of one pole, and my exterior off of the other, just for simplicty of wiring. This means that all my interior lights were run off of one (97) terminal, and the exterior off the other (97) terminal.
Now, the way I went about running all my lights off of one relay was the use of distribution blocks, avaliable at any auto parts store. If you check out the build thread I did you'll see the interior one I did; just allows me to run two wires off the 97 terminals and then distribute wire to all the lights I've done
hey kurtis im in the process of pirating your lighted door handle mod and have a question about your relay. did you hook the dome light wire to the trigger and run a 12v line to the power lead and neg. to neg. lead, then load to the lights???? i wanna make sure i got it right BEFORE i start hooking everything up. i got all the wiring ran and have to finish off the handles and install the lights. i'd also like to further that with putting led strips on the exterior that work off the dome. i cant remember if you did t hat, if you did or would have a guess could i run all that wiring off of one relay?? and last but not least, the custom sunburst orange you have for your interior pieces, is that dye or did you rattle can that??? if it is dye could you help me out with the where and what of it all. i know its allot of crap being thrown at you and you've barely been back home since your trip but any help you can give me would be appreciated
