So the oil pump in a 4.7 is driven by the shaft. Its a strange doughnut shaped .... Thing. not the best image but that's the best i can do on this tablet.

The schematic makes it look like the oil pump is all the way up by the water pump. Alldata calls for taking all of that out. Timing chain, water pump, etc. I have no idea, Drew I really don't. I know enough to change the oil and discombobulate an engine rather thoroughly, and diagnose simple problems. Not hardly anything about where anything really is minus a few things. I feel freakin useless in this situation. Ill show the video to mike tomorrow. Just got hone from there.

Looking at alldata it really does look like it all of that needs to come out. He doesnt bother trying to hide it from me i plugged silvers info in myself. Please dont think im trying to argue. I would love to just take out the oil pan. I myself can't see another way to do it with the way it shows the thing nestled in there. If you can shed light on this its be great for everyone.
6 hours in labor alone, not including what else he finds when he gets into it. His assistant says hes scared to let me drive it. If you'd rather email me you reach me at

I'm seeing a bunch of options with a preliminary look-see concerning Melling high volume oil pumps.
How would you suggest I go about getting/ordering one?
Mike (mechanic) also said that it looks like getting to the pump involves taking the timing chain (and front end of engine) off...? I want him to drop the oil pan either way but we'll see.
At last check he couldn't get it to misbehave so he couldn't diagnose.

After the oil change it wouldn't pick up the 10W40 that we got for it, so he had to heat the oil pan and drain it out. He's going to put something thinner into it to see if he can get it running. Says we need a new oil pump, possibly a new fuel pump as well. He says when they had it in the air it sounded like it had a rod going bad, and there's transmission fluid leaking from the yolk in a place that it 'shouldn't be leaking from' and he's never seen it leak there before. Says it sounds bad- he and his assistant don't like it.
Sum it up as I've no idea what's going on, but I had a nasty feeling for awhile and he's just confirming that.

oh, see I heard it was some weirdo named Drew. Silver may look pretty but it's been in the shop for 3 days and the mechanic just told us he thought we should get rid of it.

Weekend's been interesting! Stray walker showed up, so now we're playing 'find the hunting dog a home'.

    Hope your weekend went great!
