Is my dealer liable?

I bought a used 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi, Crew Cab, very nice truck that I like very much.

Here is my issue.

I bought it certified used from a Dodge dealer locally. The truck had 8,000 miles on it when I bought it.

I came to the store to buy a new truck, and wound up buying this one used. It was explained to me in detail the used truck warranty, and the certification process which included a 120 point detailed vehicle inspection.

Well the next day after I bought it, my windows wouldn't roll down (none of them).

They made it right, but it took over a week for them to do so.

Now I am a victim of the torque converter noise, again they are making it right, my parts arrived today, and the truck goes under the knife next week for the repair.

As others have observed with their Ram Sport trucks, my truck should have a light under the hood and a glove box light, it does not have either, and I suspect they will make this right as well.

HERE IS MY PROBLEM. The 120 point inspection includes, windows functionality, transmission inspection, and verification that all lights function.

My windows did not work, my transmission has had the grind since the test drive, which my salesman attributed to the mds system, and the lights, albeight not critical to operation of the vehicle should have been found missing in the inspection.

To me these issues prove the dealer could not have possibly done the certified inspection which was the basis for my purchasing used instead of new. I basically feel like the truck was sold to me under fraudulent pretenses since this inspection was not conducted.

Amy I being way over the top crazy or do I have a legitimate bone to pick with my Dodge dealer?

It never hurts to ask in a calm rational tone to provide the certification checklist that the dealer is supposed to use to verify the 120 areas have been checked. Call them on it and if there is a problem maybe they can use it as a learning/coaching experience to the technician that ran your truck through the system.

Those days if there is no warning light coming up at the instrument panel, they will tell you everything is fine. Welcome to today's dealers.

My 2011 had huge torque converter problem and my local dealer told me that was normal, other dealer replaced the torque converter twice after that.

Looks like they did not inspected your truck thoroughly, they wash it and sold it to you. Complain and if they don't fix it right call Chrysler they will help.

Is your dealer liable for what?
Sounds like they are taking responsibility and responsive action to remediate any issues with the vehicle.
These repairs have been at no cost, right (besides inconvenience)?

If they did the full inspection that they claimed that they did
Ask them to sell you the
LIFETIME MAXIMUM CARE WARRANTY

If they tell you that they can't do it, ask them why,
on the warranty website they say if the vehicle was properly serviced & it was serviced regularly, they can sell a vehicle with the warranties
It just takes you asking for it

If they won't do it, walk away, they are trying to have prison sex with with you

It appears they are stepping up and making the needed repairs. Good luck!

I would politely and calmly ask them how these things could have passed the inspection, and suggest that maybe they should re-do the 120 point inspection and take care of the issues they find, rather then waiting for you to bring it back one by one until they have all been addressed. :4-dontknow:

.....be interesting to see/hear what their response is. :)

there is a difference between a certification so the vehcle is road worthy and a 120 point inspection, you dont need an engine to do a CERT... I would assume they did the 120 point to try to prove to you the customer the truck was ok. i do agree with you that it is pretty hard for them to check the windows when the windows dont work.... I doubt you can pick with them because any issues you have had as part of the 120 point or warranty they are covering for you from what you are saying without issue, if it takes a week it takes a week, thats they way dealers work...

If you can keep finding issues soon that werre supposed to be covered in the 120 point than maybe you can do something, but by pick what do you meen?? Usually most inspections are only good for a certain amount of time, Here a certification or safety to make the vehicle road worthy is only good for 30 days...

i dont disagree with you for being pissed though, I would be too especially on things that were supposed to be covered but if they are trying to make it right then they are trying to make it right, even if it might be to cover their own tracks

Just because they are fixing these issues, doesn't make them a good dealer. Obviously they inspected NOTHING and just sold you the truck. Same happened to me while buying this 09', they gave me the 3 month/ 3000 mile warranty, which I used to have the tires balanced, exhaust manifold and broken bolts replaced, tie-rods replaced due to a recall, and rear pinion seal replaced. I was not very nice the last time, and told the service department what I really thought of them...trust me, they don't care, and they don't properly inspect. Thank goodness for this site, I was able to solve a lot of issues before my "dealer" warranty expired. You can hold a grudge, and never go there for service like I plan to. I don't give a free pass for fixing their mistakes, when they ALL should have been caught on the inspection.
