Considering a beater...convince me...

Thinking of buying my neighbor's 92 ford escort 2-door. 5-speed, manual, no power anything. has 84,000 miles, in damn good shape, wants $800. I figure in 6 months it will pay for itself in gas I am NOT putting in the Ram.

Catch is I have to wait to buy until he moves back to FL later this year. I am down. Thoughts? Car needs nothing, runs and drives dude to work everday.

Here is the exact car:

The price is right & everyone in snow/mud country needs a beater
Just about everyone i know buys a small pickup to take the banging around in the winter & spring & for the runs to the dump.
I don't have a beater myself, where i live there is no parking spots & the street parking is always full & the parking officials like to mark tires to see if all of the vehicles are in use.
That is why i sold my 1956 chevy 1/2 ton :(

Let me find someone "marking" my tires. I will beat the tar out of them.:box:

I picked up a 92 Escort in 03 a couple of months after picking up my 03 1500 Hemi Sport 4X4.

It was a great commuter car and very reliable. All I ever put in it was a radiator and it was in the first couple of days of purchasing the car from my father in law, since he never drove very far the radiator was never a problem for him.

When I sold the car I got all of my money back and purchased a Focus.

When I traded the truck after 7 years it only had 36k miles.

Well folks, I pulled the trigger. Wife paid the neighbor $400, to hold the car until they leave. We will give them the other $400 when we take delivery sometime after thanksgiving. We just wanted to make sure they didnt sell it out from under us. KBB says 1200, so we got it for a steal at $800.

You know how it goes.....first you get an Escort, next thing you know you are driving a Prius and you have traded your Ram in for a Chevy! :158:

Good luck with the new wheels....
