Altitude?

Does anyone have any information on how much the altitude will affect track times? I'm in the El Paso TX area and its pretty high altitude.

Density altitude can take a good amount off of your times! Try this correction calculator

Thanks for the link!

I use it all the time, sometimes you can lose almost a full second depending on temp and altitude!

Hey moose i live in el paso as well! its hard to get good times here because were so high above sea level. i run 16s here in el paso and we are 3,800 ft above sea level!we got add that in our list of times because some people can run 11s in their home town but if you get this high above sea level i bet theyll run 13s.

Ouch thats quite a bit of loss

AllUCIsTailLights 02-20-2012 07:26 PM

yea are you a soldier here in town moose and have u been to the track in el paso?

Moose612 02-26-2012 09:45 PM

Yeah I am and no not yet I need a few things before i can go....mainly new tires and brakes lol

I've always wondered what has more effect more, density or altitude...? If I had to guess I'd say altitude is more of a factor than temperature (because it varies so much more). Altitude can vary by hugely greater percent than the temperature does...

Here in FL in the summer heat when it's in the 90's or 100's we've always ran about 1 second slower than in the winter when it's in the 50's and 60's. We are basically at sea level.

Best times, though, are always on summer blend gas in spring or fall on a cold night.

yea man my engine is gasping for air here. The last time i went to the track it was at least like thirty degrees and with 3,800 ft altitude i ran a damn 16.7 @ 80mph but i did beat a mustang gt on that run.
