octane/selection question

I can get 91 in the town I live in (so the 91 tune would obviously work), but due to my work I am constantly traveling and the smaller gas stations usually only have 87 and 89. I'm going out on a limb and going to assume the MPG tune is for 87, which probably is shitall for performance. So on that note, should I basically run the 91 octane tune for short periods of time I'm home and have fun with it and then go back to stock when I have to go to work? Is that my only option? Lol.

On the DSP if that matters, not InTune or Trinity.

I hate to be the barer of bad news but Diablosport does not make a tuner compatable with your truck. However if you swapped over to a hemi they do.

It's not for my '98. ;) I have the DSP in hand and already plugged it into the vehicle. :P

Just the selection question stands!

Oh well what i used to do is run the 87 tune when i wasent running going to the track. And with complimenting mods the power is there with or without the 91 or 93 tune...

What elevation are you at? It may have an effect on your octane requirements. I.E Higher elevation requires less octane.

The 87 tune is still a good performance gain over stock.

You MIGHT be able to get away with the 89 octane on the 91 tune. If your truck is lighter, say 2wd, reg cab, short bed, you could probably get away with it.

I live in ND, so the highest I would probably see would be no where over 3500 - and that's pushing it.

Edit: Just did a google search, our highest point is 3,506 to which a part of the state I don't travel! So I'd say around 2,200'ish.

It is a quad cab 4x4 short bed, so I doubt I would. Suppose I can just play with the 91 with the short time I'm off, then switch it back to stock with the MDS off to get my moneys worth.

^hey at least it wasn't also a long bed.....lol
