What an evening........

Came up to New Orleans to pick my step mom up at the train station, and got into a minor accident. That was over an hour ago and we are still waiting on the police to show up. I wont get into what happened but want to share 2 thoughts:
1. Always carry a snickers when traveling through New Orleans as if something happens ou will be a while.

2. The reason i dont mind filling up a truck verses a car is as follows:

All is okay no one hurt. Just ramblings to keep my blood pressure down while waiting.

So glad that no one was hurt. I agree 100%, driving these trucks costs a bit more but you are so much safer. Some people just don't get it. Take care and try to relax.

Sorry about the incident just glad everyone is ok. Wow just shows you that like you say it might be more to fill and drive around but look at the difference in damage a great safety feature love my truck!

Damn, just seeing this but glad to hear everyone's ok and I so agree with you, I would much rather pay more to have a truck and feel safe. Still sorry to see this, though. :(

Okay, I went to my insurance company today to report the accident. I also got an estimate done on the truck........$1300.

I was in New Orleans picking my step mom up from the train station, so we could scatter my dads ashes in the Gulf. This was his wish for his remains and we planned to do it on the year anniversary of his death, which is today, (we actually scattered his ashes yesterday as that was the only day we could get the rest of the family together). On the way home, 2 blocks from the train station is where the wreck occured. I turned left into an intersection on a flashing yellow light. Going through the intersection there was no lights, but at the street corner I was traveling to there was a green light. On my right traveling the opposite way of where I turned from was the car I t boned. He could see me, and nor could I see him due to a plastic traffic divider blocking the left turn lane, he also had the same flashing yellow light that I turned on.

When the police finally showed up (2 hours later), he wrote his report, and gave me a case number to give my insurance company, no ticket. Im not sure about the other driver (which worked as an valet for the Hyatt Regency and was driving a customers car).

In the end, no one was injured. We were able to honor my dads final wishes, and we were able to spend time with my step mom and niece before I bring them back to the train station tomorrow. Oh and about the train situation, my step mom and dad has drove an semi together, went places by car, airplane and on cruises. Never on a train, and when my dad became sick this was worked into the plans of scattering his ashes.

man that sucks! glad no one was ok. Hard to tell form the sroy but no one was really at fault? up here the police advise that when the lights flash yellow (usually because the power has gone out) that it is to be treated as a 4 way stop to avoid this type of thing.. I am in no way saying your at fault, that is just how it works up here... hopefuloly you can get her fixed and your insurance doesnt ding you!

bigdaddyII 03-22-2012 02:43 PM

A four way stop would have been ideal, except for the road construction in that intersection and the plastic dividers blocking view from all sides. No citations were issued and tge lights were fixed by Tuesday morning when i brought them back to the station. Im probably not going to put it in the shop to fix it right now. I removed the majority of the other cars paint with wax and all thats left now is the dent and my own paint damage.

Glad all is ok and that all plans were implemented, and may your Dad enjoy his new traveling experiences.
