22.4 mpg

I drive the I-5 from Oceanside to San Clemente, CA daily(about a 16 mile stretch). I have been getting around 19-21 MPG, but I hit 22.4 the other day. I just keep it at 65 and in the far right lane the entire time. Seems kind of lame to drive that slow, but when gas is so expensive the way it is
My truck is stock, the bed is usually empty, and the cab has myself and a bag of gym clothes, that's about it. So I am not carrying much. and I am using Shell 89 Octane fuel
I tried loading a picture, but the dang thing won't work.

Nice. How many miles do you get out of a tank? I've driven @ 72 MPH with the cruise control on and got over 20 mpg's. but it took a few hundred miles of driving like that before it went up that high. I average 16-17 mpg's overall but if my wife drives it she gets over 19.

It seems to me that how I drive the first 15 miles makes a big difference. If I go from the pump to stop and go city driving my MPG are around 15. If I go straight from the pump to the highway I can stay around 17 or 18. I live in San Clemente and drive into Camp Pendleton (las pulgas) almost everyday, I keep cruise control at 70 the whole time I'm on the freeway.

Ski, do you work in San Clemente? I'm always down for meeting up for a beer and truck talk, hit me up.

Sweet! I've got an average of 22.5mpg (calculated) on a trip to Jacksonville and back at about 65mph(wife actual drove and was following me in a uhaul). I usually get about 20 mpg on the hwy at about 70mph.

With 20" chrome clads and 275/65/20 Wrangler AT/S 8 ply, I can manage 13/17.5, with stock 17" aluminum rims and 265/70/17 Destination A/T 6 ply, closer to 14.5/19! Almost not worth the bling! Ok it must be cuz I just put the 20's back on a week ago, watching the mileage drop every day!

Vista to San Mateo is a haul.
I use to have an 07 Big Horn with a 4.7, and was working in San Mateo. I use to drive about 70 and get 18 MPG

I now work at SOI. As an instructor I am either working late at night ranges, or I am off real early because I don't have a class to teach. But I am always up for a beer! Pizza Port is great. Don't go out in San Clemente too much.

Interesting that 70mph gets 18mpg, which is where I normally sit. But 5mph slower will put mpg at 22. I'm going to start doing that from now on and see what I can get.

I came close to re-up'ing to be an instructor at SOi. I've got a bunch on friends that work up there, or used to. Most have gone back to the the fleet or gotten out.

I live within walking distance of pizza port in San Clemente. Anytime you're up there give me a buzz 801-842-8854 (Jim)

I have a 2010 hemi crew cab with 24's and ram box... I drive about 300 miles per week or more and get like 14 mpg avg. I don't have a heavy foot, but avg 80 on the highway and speed limit in the city. 250 miles of the 300 every week are on the highway. Any suggestions to increase my mpg? I've heard you can. Us a chip for this?

Well my friends, when you fill up your tanks either this week or next, you will be getting Summer Blend gasoline at the busiest stations.

I talked to a SoCal Distributor driver at a Am Pm Friday, he picked up his load at the Mission Valley Tank Farm down by the Stadium, he didn't know if the load that he was dropping was Summer or Winter Blend, but he did know about the dates of the mandated Blend change. After May 1st, the gas stations can only receive summer blend. Better MPG with Summer Blend
