Stuck in park !!!

This is a problem I had the begin of March more of a " FYI " my Big Horn 2500 kept not wanting to shift out of park . The column shifter would not budge one day I blocked the main gate at my job 5 min no one was happy with that. Took it to the dealer they said a syncro was needed come back in 2 days. It was so bad by then didn't think I would get there. At the dealer I had 2 cars blocked in it locked up completely. I had asked it there was a procedure to get it out of park the dealer had said no , But yesterday I found something in the manual that tells you how to do an EMERGENCY out of park. This was for column & consul shifters listed under "emergency procedures" Hope this helps someone else out.

Automatic transmissions don't have synchros, so I'm a little confused by your dealer's diagnosis. What did they finally end up replacing?

Often, failure to pull out of Park is due to a problem with the BTSI system (brake switch, BTSI solenoid, adjustment, etc.). Did it feel like it was jammed at the shifter itself, or like the shifter would move but the lever on the trans wouldn't?

Yes, all automatics have an emergency manual override that will allow you to pull the shifter out of Park. Typically, the BTSI solenoid must be powered in order to UNBLOCK the shift lever and allow you to pull out of Park. So if your battery is dead, you will be stuck in Park. If you need to tow a vehicle with a dead battery, then you have to use the manual override to pull it out of Park for towing.

They shifter lever would not come out of PARK maybe it was the solenoid replacement I will have to look at the invoice tomorrow. It was really a pain and stressful on top of that thinking a tow was needed. Thanks for your reply post.

Well, at least it's not the 'pink thingy' problem that the LX platform had. Hell, even dealerships were calling up Billt Technology and ordering their billet replacement because it worked so well.

A couple of answers to other post reply

My shifter sticking was a problem but only intermittently for a while I would think I did something that's why it didn't want to shift.(Move gear selector out of PARK) I've only had the truck 8 months so if your experiencing this it will only get worse take my notes on defective parts to your dealer. I did report this problem to the dealer at a earlier time but if it wouldn't happen at the dealer there was nothing to fix.
The six speed is great I traded my 2011 F350 in because of a year of transmission problems on its 6spd a brand new truck should not have transmission problems that can't be fixed. I'm a former Ford man that is former still love the ford styling but 2 repair plagued trucks in a row I needed a change. So far so good on this truck my mpg keeps getting better far better then my 06 Power Stroke (17 mpg). This Cummin's getting 16 - 23 runs fantastic.
