New Member needs help with 3.9 problem. Please help
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 3.9, with 101,000 miles on it. Bought it new. This is the problem, Starts fine runs good for a few min. or 20 or more miles. Then it shuts off at idle just like you turned the key off. Will fire right back up just by turning the key, not off then on just start. If you are going with any speed it stops and restarts it's self ( chuges quickley) the check engine light will flash a split sec. before it dies at idle or chugs while moving at speed. No certain amount of time running before it starts screwing up. Will do it cold or normal temp. No codes
This is what I have done, but still have same problem:
TPS, checked many times for bad connections or bad wires, found none
Checked fuel pressure,good
Computer, any way to check? $350.00 at the zone
Thanks for your help
I would test the coil for proper resistance also check your fuel sync signal on the distributor. can't remember what the resistance should be but you can google it & I'll look the info tonight in my book.
Does it have an AIC valve? I know the V8s do, those are cheap and do fail. It's what keeps the truck running properly at idle. My son's jeep would run great as long as you were on the gas, off it would die. Replaced that and problem fixed.
