ticking noise

Hey guys I'm new here so I thought I'd check out forums to see if other Dodge Owners were having the same issues I have. I have a 2005 Ram 1500 with the 4.7L motor. I've owned the truck since new. I've never had any engine issues but I've noticed a ticking sound coming from under the cab area. I mostly here it after I've been driving awhile. I have a few friends that work at a local dealer and they havent been able to pin point the sound. Plus it doesnt always make that sound. I've got 70k on the clock now and I change my oil regularly. I even switched to synthetic. My truck runs great. Engine feels strong and healty. Has anyone else heard of this?

I thought it may have been lifters. I notice that noise if I dont let the truck "warm up" in the mornings. I had the truck for about a year. It was parked outside my work with around 6k on the clock. An older lady lost control and freaked out in front of the dealership where I use to work. My truck was the 2nd car she hit from the front bumper to the readr door all on the left side needed to be replaced. I was extremely upset. After I got the truck back is when I noticed this sound. You can really here it at a stop light if I'm next to a bus or a truck and the sound has something to bounce off of. I have friends who work at dealers and when I've taken it in they are unable to diag it. Frustrating right? I dont wanna be that guy who complains about little noises at the dealership but still. Here we are at 70K at the noise is still there almost like an arc or something. IDK. When I had the muffler installed while the truck was in the air I asked the guy to look it over. Said it was all looking good....

I have 2 trucks the 2012 hemi and the 2008 4.7 .

The 4.7 started ticking at about 196k its a company vehicle. The dealer told me it was piston slap which i find it hard to believe because it still ticks when hot. I red that 4.7 were bad for exhaust gaskets also lifters .

I have since then purchased the 2008 4.7 from my company . I own a camp in the woods and want to retire the 2008 from the highways to the dirt road. Since then I have done a oil change myself and I made sure to buy the original oil filters . "not sure if this engine have hydraulics lifters or not" . After the oil change I notice a big difference in cold starts. If its on warranty don't give up . It wasn't ticking before and now it does .... something changed . give the dealer hell if you have to.

Thanks Zeg. I'm out if warranty and I use the factory 5281090 oil filter. I am thinking about getting a 3rd party extended warranty through my credit union. They also carried the loan for the truck when I bought it new. Trouble just getting my busy buddy who is still a Tech at Dodge to look at my Truck. That dealer is very busy. I'll keep everyone posted.
