which tires for the track?
What tires and where have ya'll gotten them from.
I am picking up some stock aluminum 17's on thursday, and will be looking into getting some tires for the track.
I have been looking at the following:
275/55/17 general grabber uhp's, through work $143 a piece
nitto nt555,not sure from where can't get them through work
Mickey thompson, not sure what size, again can't get through work.

Should i keep it budget and go general's or go higher? Here's a pic of the rims.

I would do some 275/40 drag radials for mustangs or trans ams. Lower profile...higher effective gear ratio! Nitto makes an NT05R in that size, Hoosier has one as well as M/T. All are around 200 each, and then you can get a cheap 275/40 crap tire to run up front. Air up the fronts to 40+ psi for the weight.

Our supplier is out of stock on the nitto nt05's but they matched the price of the general grabber uhp in the nt555 nittos so i went with 2 of those. 275/40/17 and they will be here this afternoon!

What's your rear gear ratio, 3.55? That's about a 26" tall tire. That should put your effective ratio roughly equivalent to 4.56. A little steep IMO, but I know how much everyone on here loves that magical number :)

Why the nt555 over the nt555r's in regards to track tires vs street?

moparornocar72 05-30-2012 05:59 PM

I have 3.92's and the 555r's r currently out of stock

Gotcha. Looking forward to see how the 555's work out at the track since its a street tire.

Good luck!

Wow, you're going to have some serious launching power, lol. I'm curious to see how it works out. You'll be nearing 5,000 rpm's in 1:1 gear at the gates. You'll have better gearing, and are spreading the acceleration out over more gears, but add in an additional shift.

are the NT05s out of stock or the NT05R? I'd def go with the NT05R and order them from Discount Tire Direct if you have to.

Those 555s arent drag tires, just regular street tires
