Mds 2012
4200 miles so far and it's still difficult for me to understand why there is so much vibration in ECO mode and so smooth when disabled? I love everything about this truck except this MDS. If fuel is shut off to 4 cylinders while in ECO mode, where is the vibration that I feel and hear coming from? I have read on here that some are saying "it's normal" and my Dodge service writer and their mechanic say there should be no noticable sound or vibration. Thanks for anymore input you guys could provide!

gm's do the same thing

GTyankee 06-01-2012 03:33 AM

I don't feel a thing, as long as i am above 35 MPH

below 35 mph, stay out of DRIVE, like traveling through town

I wish I could help you. I leave mine in drive at all times and do a good bit of town to slow highway driving. I have never had this problem!!

Same here mine is also fine

I've had my 5.7 2012 for two days now and at very low speeds when eco kicks in there is a very slight whine or air sound, it's under warranty oh well... :-) I would think it's normal, does anyone know if when the gas is cut to the four cyls do they keep rotating? If so it may get a little unbalanced I would think.
Any info guys?

This is a pretty good article about how the MDS works
it is Car Craft Technical article

check out the images of the heads, etc.

Thanks GT! good info on that article. I think with all the info I have been able to get sounds like the problem I'm having with my MDS is not normal and will schedule some time with my dealer and thanks to all who replied...pHiL

I feel the vibration in Eco Mode, and I've been told it's the torque converter having to catch up, seemed to make sense at the time. Nothing to worry about supposedly.

I think there is either a very slight, low frequency vibration with MDS engaged or at least the perception of a slight vibration. I've always noticed it on my '12 Express. As GT states, it's only noticeable at lower speeds like driving on city streets or at a lower speed. It's subtle enough that it doesn't bother me, but this is an area where so many people are different. I also notice that MDS is engaged when you let off the throttle and are coasting, but you don't feel it then. It's only when you're maintaining speed or have a slight load on the throttle. Apparently this drives some people crazy. Like it or not, I don't think anything is wrong or malfunctioning. I think it's the nature of the beast. You can disable it as GT suggests by just shifting to the high gear position out of drive.
