A/c compressor stopped working
I have a 2008 2500 w/ 6.7 cummins, it has 118000 miles, today when the temp hit 105, my ac went out, without warning. Looking at the compressor while the engine is running, the compressor is not engaging, checked the fuses under the hood, with no problems found. Has anyone had this happen? I have never had one just stop like this before, usually a smaller problems starts and then leads to total failure... Thanks.
This sounds like the compressor clutch isn't kicking in. It could be a couple of things, the most expensive is the clutch itself (replacable without replacing the whole compressor, but most likely they will opt to do both as it's a quicker turn around). The other items that it could be is a low refridgerant level, or a back refriderant pressure switch. If the system indicates a low refridgerant pressure, it will not let the clutch engage. There may also be other items that keeps the clutch from engaging as well..
