4.7L News inbound!

Talked to local custom shop. In the next hour i will be driving over and seeing what (if anything) they can do for a FULL EXHAUST, minus cat-back system i have of course.

News to follow when i return!

Upon investigation, there was issues with expanding pipe size before the "y" pipe. which by the way isnt a true Y so much as a "2 crushed pipes into a single hole". from what the tech showed me, and explained, the thermal stress would cause issues with the tranny. that said, he told me that there is a way, albeit tricky, to form an X pipe, crossover dual exhaust. long story short, it would be for show and sound at best, not performance

What exactly were you looking to have done?

NightRazor 07-13-2012 12:21 PM

i wanted to bump the diameter of the whole exhaust to 4" to match my catback.

Wow you're exhaust is 4"? Is it off a diesel? You are probably losing some power from that. 3" is about as big as you'd want to go for single exhaust, and about 2.5" for duals. You need to keep the diameter small enough to promote high exhaust gas velocity, otherwise you will lose some power. The stock sizing is very good, but the stock muffler, y pipe, and manifolds are fairly restrictive.

That would be pointless on a 4.7, you have no where near enough exhaust flow to need a full 4" setup, all that would do is kill the low end torque

the cat back (as ive been posting furiously) is indeed a stock-4" Gibson performance exhaust, supported by metal mulisha. lol

NightRazor 07-13-2012 01:42 PM

and no, ive been asked that a few times but it is NOT off of a diesel

I'm just amazed that a manufacturer would make a 4" exhaust system for that truck.
