superchips

got a great deal on a NIB 3865. i have 157,000 miles on my truck. is it ok to run the 91 tune? should i have a wideband? i dont know much history on the truck but she doesnt leak, knock, smoke, use fluids, or anything. trany shifts fine. just want to make sure i wont hurt anything with the added performance. thanks guys :)

the higher octane won't hurt your engine at all. I'm not sure how the superchips work, but with my Diablo i can select wich fuel setting to use. So if your nervous about running 91, you might be able to ween it off the reg, to mid grade and than to the high test once your comfortable.

no, not the grade LOL im used to turbo cars. before you up the boost or anything you want to make sure the engine is up to par before doing it. im just worried that the extra power it will make is gonna hurt something as the engine is all original with 157K miles. i dont wanna melt down a piston or anything is all. thanks for the reply

the tune you used is based on the octane you run, 86,89,91. Atleast with the Diablo it is. Sorry for any confusion, lol.

It won't hurt anything, the superchips canned tunes are very safe to use. Just use the right fuel for the tune.

The 4.7L is a VERY strong engine, you won't hurt it with a canned tune. It's probably safe up to about 500+hp without issue. It uses a one piece crank girdle in lieu of individual main caps like most engines(at least the new 4.7 does...I assume the old one does too). The bottom end is pretty much bullet proof, and I haven't heard of any issues of people damaging pistons or throwing rods even when supercharged. The 4.7L also does not have the thin upper ring land like the hemi that is problematic under boost.

A turbocharged 4.7L would be amazing, I don't know of any though...

awesome, thanks guys! i was toying around with later down the line swapping a hemi and getting the stroker kit too. the compression is 8.5 to 1 so turbo is possible, and it comes with forged pistons, crank and i think forged rods. all ive ever played with is turbo cars so i wanna go turbo on this too LOL
