318 to 383 motor swap have some questions

i have a feeling that my motors going out and found somebody with a MOPAR 383 i'm sixteen but have a bit of mechanical expierience how hard is it? will i need new motor mounts? new computer? and i was also planing in changing the 5 speed to a 4 speed is that simple to just take out and put back in? need a few answeres before i pull trough with this.

itll be a lot of work since the 318 in your truck is a small block and the 383 is a big block, so youll have to find some adaptor motor mounts or fab some up. as far as going with a 4 speed, thatll be a lot of work as well since your truck has a hydraulic clutch and the old school 4 speeds are manual, meaning unless you convert the old one to hydraulic, your clutch pedal wont work

Going to a big block may also mean you'll need heavier front springs.

Schumacher probably would have mount to do the small to big block changes.

im pretty sure Schumacher makes the conversion motor mounts (couldnt think of the company)

as far as the wieght differnce, i dont think big blocks weights too much more then a small block, but if it is that much of a differnce he can go to the parts store and buy 2500 springs for around $85

Keep looking. Waaaaayy too much trouble for you. Are you planning on upgrading the 383 to Multi-point fuel injection like your current Magnum? Those are just short of custom pieces for the 60's era 383. Major $$$. It's all do-able, but you're in deep just on the engine mods. You'd literally come out cheaper just spending that money on a stroker smallblock (can we say 402/406/408?). MUCH easier and possibly even cheaper than re-designing the truck to fit the big block and update that 383.
