Oil Filter

what type of oil filter is everybody running? what is the best one? also i just got my truck 3 weeks ago, it has 700 miles. i gave it a really nice and calm break in for about 600 miles. i took the trac control off and put it in tow haul and holy shit does she get up and go

Many threads on here that cover the oil filters. Personally I use a UAP Napa gold filter which is actually a WIX filter. All the reviews are very positive on it. On the contrary however FRAMs have allot of negative things posted about them.

Amsoil is a great choice, that's all I have been using. A bit pricey but well worth it. I use the Signature Series 0W20 and as already mentioned a UAP Napa gold filter. I just did my forth oil change, here is a pic for reference.

thanks a lot. another ? for ya, this is my first brand new vehicle, the dealer doesnt need to do the oil changes, just the maintanence schedules to maintain my warranty? or am i wrong? and what are those two black quarts you have in the back in the picture? also what intervals do you go on your oil?

You can do your own maintenance it just has to be done correctly, on time, and documented. Keep your receipts and keep a log of date, mileage, and what you did.

Sean answered your warranty question, just keep all receipts. I also take pictures for my record and also keep a service spreadsheet up to date. The two black quarts are just different packaging for the same oil (0W20 extended drain signature series). I had five left over from my last oil change and needed two more to get my 6.6 liters. As far as intervals, even though I use extended drain (good for 25,000 kilometers) I change mine every 8,000 kilometers. The service guide recommends 10,000 kilometers so I'm under the manufacturers required service intervals.

why the switch to RP? i ran it in my 04 and loved it, but have been hearing even better things about Amsoil

snrusnak 08-02-2012 06:18 PM

They're basically identical. From my experience RP is more expensive because it's harder to find(at least in my area).
