Stall first and then gears.

what gears do you have now?

Stock 3.55 and running 265/70/17 tire around 30 inches tall

kind of a toss up but since you said you occasionally tow I'd do the gears. you'll benefit from them towing and stop light to stop light.

Do you have an open diff or limited slip? If you have an open diff, then I would do gears first along with a quality LSD unit. If you have a limited slip, then the converter is going to show better performance gains at the track.

Stock 3.55 with limited slip

I have never done a stall on a truck but all my cars I have always done the gears 1st then got a stall to work with my gear and engine mods. My 09 came with the stock 3.21's or whatever junk dodge threw in and I just got it back with a set of 3.92's today. I can't beat on it till after break in but what a difference even under lighter acceleration. Kind wish I went with 4.10 since it still only around 2k rpm at 70 to 75 mph. Well worth the upgrade can't wait to see the difference when I can hook up my trailer.

3.21 to a 3.92 is a nice jump but since the OP has s 3.55 I would def recommend going to a 4.10.

RyanJM 08-16-2012 02:50 PM

Ya if I had a 3.55 I would have done the 4.10. I actually wish I would have gone up to a 4.10 instead of the 3.92. I am happy with the difference it drives better and I am getting better mpg now. Probably due to not having to stuff the gas pedal so far down just to get it moving.
