2006 Ram 1500 sport crew cab Ball joints

I have been having suspected problems with front end. Found out today that both lower ball joints were popped. I am going to replace the myself, but I the the auto parts stores dont have a clue. What the hell is an extended crew cab? they have different pt numbers for crew vs. extended crew. I dont want to get everything apart and not have parts to put ity back together. I also thought that if I was replacing the lowers...I should replace the uppers also...does that make sense?

Thanks.

The extended crew cab is the mega cab I think. 2006 was the 1st year they had that. From the little picture I would say it is a crew cab not a mega one (extended crew cab). Here is the mega cab http://images.thecarconnection.com/m...00298926_m.jpg

And here is the crew cab

Also when I replaced my ball joints a couple months ago, I only did lowers because of lack of funds. But doing all 4 if you can afford it definatly won't hurt anything except your pocket. I would also make sure you get a good quality ball joint like moog that is grease-able. If you need help I wrote a step by step process (kinda) of how to do them.

I have all 4 ball joints. As much as i tried, i could not separate the Tie rod. I loosend the nuts on both ball joints and was able to get the top on to move as far as the nut was loosened, but I couldnt get the lower one to pop at all.

did you happen to look at my post? You will either need a pickle fork (didn't work for me), or the tool that I posted in here http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=117742

I just did. I feel dumb now. I have a puller set and didnt even think of using it. I could just use a socket since a regular puller doesnt have a swivel on the end of the screw.

Hey don't feel dumb. I was smashing my head against the wall trying to figure out how to break my lower ones lose. I ended up having to rent a front end kit from auto parts store just to get the puller. If you need any more help just ask and good luck on the project

thanks, I put it back together and will try again tomorrow.

what ball joints did you happen to get?

sbunker1 09-09-2012 07:12 PM

I got the moog. Lowers about $68 ea. Uppers about $80 ea. I may have been able to find cheaper online, but I wanted to go pick them up incase there are any problems and I need to return or exchange.

That isn't bad. I think that is about what I paid for my lowers (haven't done uppers yet). Glad to see you got a good brand
