Gas Mileage

Hi all,
I'm loving my new Ram,very cool truck but OMG!!
I didn't buy it because it was going to get good gas mileage, but i just took a trip to Oakland Ca. and only got at the most 16 mpg ? Truck has just 1400 miles on it,I wasn't pulling a trailer and had no weight in the bed.
Any thoughts?

1) How fast were you driving?
2) Hilly conditions?
3) Weather?

Agreed, all these could effect your mileage. I am consistently getting over 20 MPG on (highway only) driving.

If your haulin ass I'd say that 16MPG is damm impressive  Try easing up a bit and you will see the mileage improve. You will also see better mileage once you get some miles on it.

I agree, 16mpg at 75mph+ is pretty low...for a 4 cylinder car. For a full size truck weighing 5300lbs+ and with a 390hp v8 5.7L engine, that's pretty darn good.

By way of the evic (reset every trip so turns out pretty accurate when hand calculated after) on a 300 mile trip avg speed 84 set on cruise control 16.7-17. very hilly I-25 between albuquerque and el paso. So it sounds about right. I do have a few mods, but also carrying the extra weight of a bed toolbox and the stock exhaust is sitting in the bed lol.
