Exhuast Smell
Well I have been doing more traveling for work lately and having someone follow me to the next job and they say they can tell when I step on the throttle because of the smell.

What would be causing this. I have 87 ocatane in it (i know it says 89) and 15,000 highway kms.

Anything I can do or some insight as to what causes this would be great

Might be running a tad rich whickh is common for a factory tuned engine. The octane really does not matter. dodge stated to use 89 because supposedly it is a cleaner fuel. Stick with the 87 if it is running fine on it. 2 more octane points is not going to make or break this engine. The 5.7 uses a lot of gas, especially when you step on it. If you have the EVIC, watch the real time mpg display drop to zero when you nail it. I would not sweat it. Just tell your buddy to enjoy the smell of a real engine!

as long as it does NOT smell like rotten eggs,
just drive it

Your not alone, a couple of friends have said same thing following me when I step on it.
HorsePower takes fuel!!!!

Only thing that would make it better is 100+ octane race gas. Love the smell of that stuff! Wish the hemi had the compression to use it. I have fond child hood memories of my father's 69 Camaro running race gas for a daily driver. That was 30 years ago, damn I am old!

I have a 69 Charger with built 440 for street. Its still fun to dump some 100 in just to smell it!!!
At $9.00 gallon, the 100 fun juice is just once in a while!!

Use to run VP C-16 aka 116octane in my nova race car stuff smelled so good and was blue. Also used race gas smelling additives sometimes ...goodtimes
