Newbie with 4x4 vacuum issue
Hi, I recently bought a 2001 Ram 1500 with the 5spd manual and 4x4. The day after I got it home I changed all the oil :engine(5.2),transmission(NV3500),transfer case(np231d), and both front and rear diffs. Everything runs perfect on the truck except the 4 wheel drive. The front driveshaft wont spin when I put it in 4x4 so I assumed it was the vacuum system. I disassembled the shift motor and everything seemed to be working. I also replaced the vacuum switch. When that didn't fix the problem I replaced the vacuum lines with generic black vacuum line from the switch on the transfer case all the way to the vacuum motor. After all that it still wont engage and the light has never come on on the dash. I have been checking it on the road for wheel hop. No wheel hop in 4lo either but shift range changes like it should.
Is running the vacuum lines directly from the switch harness to the motor fittings not right??
Im lost...somebody please help!
Let us know how you make out and please keep us updated......
I don't know about the 2001 models or the 4x4 but my 98 has a literal interstate hwy system of vac lines under and in the dash. Got to see all that fisrt hand when Peedoodlum and I changed the heater core. there may be a disconnect there if it is the vac lines
