1998 Ram Sport with Towing Package- How to setup for electric brake

Hello

I have located the wiring connector under the dash, the blue connector. I started looking around the rear of the truck and found the original Mopar 4 wire connector with the protective cover on it. This wires inside this are rusted and rotted out.

This connector has never been used as there is another 4 wire connector off the back of the truck that works well.

I want to install a brake controller but un sure of how to convert the Mopar 4 wire to a seven wire connector. Plus I still have a boat trailer and utility trailer that is 4 wire.

Any thoughts or ideas that other Ram owners have come up with

Thanks all

Yea you need to buy the 7 way tow harness for you model year truck, you're lucky because you have a connector for it, and be sure that the blue connector you are talking about isn't one with 6 pins or more because if it is then I'm afraid you have your hand on the srs airbag diagnostics connector. Anyways what I did was buy a universal 7 way connector and made my own harness, remember to use a relay to isolate the running lights otherwise you WILL burn out the headlamp switch (40 bucks).

Be sure to use auto-reset relays on the aux power and the brake power.

But run the brake wire (blue) and the aux power (black) from the rear 7 way connector all the way to the cab, connect the black to a auto-reset breaker relay then the relay to the battery. Connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the controller, then the connect the controller as per directions included with controller.

The 4 way under the rear bumper just connect to the 7-way universal.

My vehicle didn't have anything so I had to make all the harnesses, took a couple days and the harness weighed somewhere like 15 or 20 lbs. But I envy you for that connector, the only thing I had was the 4 way connector in the rear but still nothing else and I didn't want to drill any holes, but had to in order to tow.

Thanks for the info

Lets hope its not soemthing for the airbag.

This should be a fun little project, just need to get it done before snow flies.
