Tie rods

Hey guys, my truck just went in for its third oil change 17,000km and the service guy found both my tie rods loosen and worn out. Any one else have this problem.

yea i believe there was a recall on them go to the dealer and have them check it out

The recall is VIN specific. I aleady had one installed under warranty at 12k miles. The recall doesn't apply to my truck. I found my other one getting loose last oil change. Another trip to the dealer.

Not an uncommon problem for a Dodge Ram truck. I had both of mine replaced at about 40,000 kms. Previous generation trucks also had this issue as well?

wow thats crazy. thanks guys.

even if not covered by a recall, shouldn't your basic warranty cover this ?

Chunkem 10-14-2012 08:44 PM

I believe the warranty will cover this however it depends all on your dealer....

Only 17,000 kilometers, that's nuts.

Its not nuts, these are heavy trucks and tie-rods and ball joints are all wear items. 17k is a little extreme, but maybe they weren't greased right at the factory. My 09 had tie-rods done at 70k, but they were bad at 50k, I just didn't know it...wasnt something I thought to check. Wait until you have to replace a ball joint out of warranty. They are non serviceable/non replaceable in the 4th gens. The whole control arm(s) have to be changed out.

I had mine replaced at 50,000km. Kind of dissapointing. Wondering if the new ones are better or if I am going to have to replace them after another 50,000km but without the warranty
