Fiberglass Hood questions
I just bought a fiberglass hood from VIS racing, the outlaw type 1 model. put it on, and I knew the springs in the hinges would be too strong for the hood but didn't realize they would be that strong, i think they keep it from shutting correctly. can I mod these hinges to work or do I need to get new ones, and where would I even get new ones? Also, the only holes pre-drilled were for the latch, the ones for the safety latch and the grille attachement are not, can i just drill through fiberglass like i would steel? thanks in advance for any tips.
Tough questions, fiberglass hoods rarely fit well without some work, sometimes major work. Honestly I don't think the hinges are affecting the way your hood rests when fully closed, there is not much leverage when the hinges are in the down position. However if you feel strongly about modding them, you could torch them to soften them up a bit, don't go too far though or you will have to prop your hood with a rod. As for drilling holes, yes you can drill holes into the fiberglass, BUT you have to use some sort of a nutsert, or j-nut, otherwise eventually the glass will start splitting and you will start loosing your mounting hardware.
