New to the 4.7 engine
So I have had a few hemi trucks (04 and 11) and I have a challenger. I just bought a 2003 4.7 1500 for a winter vehicle. I bought it for 2000.00 because the front passeger wheel feel off due to a broken spendal. So far, we have replaced the spindle, front hubs, rotars and pads, as well as the U joints in the back. I will have to replace the tie rods in a couple of days too. It has 140k miles, is there anything I should be on the look out for? common problems for this truck/year?
Also, can someone tell me a little about my motor? HP/TRQ, average mpg that most see?

Assuming it's an auto, I'm not sure if the 2003 has a 45rfe(5 forward gears) or 545rfe(6 forward gears) but either way you will likely see around 15mpg avg. Maybe 17ish if all hwy. My dad has a 2005 4.7L with 3.55's, it's a pretty bare bones single cab, long bed, "work" truck base model, and he never gets better than 17 even cruising at 65 on the hwy. The good thing is he says he never gets real bad either, even when towing.
You're looking at 235hp/295lbft. Not a fast truck, but ample torque for a light duty.
Some people report problems of sludge buildup in the early 4.7L, but it's all due to improper maintenance. If the oil changes were kept up that won't be an issue. And like any aluminum head/iron block engine, it's somewhat prone to head gasket leaks or cracked heads when overheated.
Good basic reliable engine.
03 should have the 545RFE, but it is possible it could be the 45RFE (only difference is programming). If you have the 45 you can swap TCM's to get the extra OD gear. Use a quality synthetic (4.7's are known to suffer from sludge problems) oil and let the oil get warm so it burns off any moisture/condensation. Do not let it overheat, as the valve seats in the heads tend to like to come out and play with the pistons. Check to make sure your axle isn't trying to throw a C clip (same as your 04).
