2012 Ram 1500 Max Payload & Towing??
We currently tow a 28ft 5th whl (tongue wt of 1150lb) w/an old school Ram 2500 w/4:10 and 5.9 V8. It's almost 14yrs old, so am hoping to replace it with a new 1500 w/HEMI and 3:92 cog w/max towing pkg, etc.
We want the QuadCab, 6ft 4in bed, 4x4. I'm finding very conflicting info. re: payload and towing cap. The web site says w/2 of us and trailer it has a little safety margin...but the booklet from dealer says max payload is under 1300lb. I'll have about 1600lb.
Are any of you folks already pulling a 5th wheel w/this truck? :4-dontknow: If so, how is it equip'd and what has been your experience/success?? What is the rear axle rating for the new 5-link coil spring rear suspension?
Going to a 2500 is a little overkill for me and the ride is beating my wife up. The cummins is like fireing a cannon to kill a mouse.
Would be happy to hear and and all comments... I'm also looking into the Ford Ecoboost as a contender. (don't throw stuff, now). THANKS .
I have seen a few 1500's towing fivers, but I know from other sites of people that trades up to 3/4 ton's and wouldnt go with a half ton for a fiver ever again.
this is from Ramtrucks.com
Towing a 5'er is not recommended with this truck, straight from the Owner's Manual.
Coil springs will not like it, you will not like driving it (with that much weight). The GAWR for both front and rear is 3900lbs. Would highly recommend against it. JMO
