Electronic 4wd question

So, this is my first truck with electronic 4wd. The settings on the knob are 2WD, 4WD AUTO, 4WD LOCK, 4WD LOW.

The owner's manual doesn't specifically state when to use any of these settings. Of course 2WD when it's dry or raining, 4WD when it's snowing or mud or something like that.

I understand 4WD LOW (when I had my 06 3500 Dually, I had shift-on-the-fly 4WD).

Question is, when do you use 4WD AUTO, and 4WD LOCK? Owner's manual states that I can drive in 2WD and 4WD AUTO. Is 4WD AUTO putting the truck into 4WD that's meant for dry roads? :4-dontknow:

Correct it is used for when you shouldnt put it in 4WD lock. For example a road that has a light dusting of snow, and it wouldnt be wise to use 4WD lock (high) due to some dry patches.

Just an FYI, keep in mind that if you use the 4x4auto and it kicks in and out (stop and go) then it is a lot of stress on the clutches in the transfer case. Which can lead to premature wear on the transfer case.
