Travel For Work

So I found out earlier this week I need to travel for work for 7 days now to most this probably isn't a big deal. I am going to the Haida Gwai a group of 150 Islands and will be staying in Masset. Now there isn't much there a population of 1000 there is like 2 restaurants and one is a sushi place and don't like sushi. Plus to top it all off this is the place the 7.7 earthquake occurred a couple of weeks ago and the many aftershocks. That doesn't bother me as there has been no damage or anything there. Just the fact of being gone for 7 days with nothing to do luckily the hotel does have wifi so I will be spending some time on the Z well some more time. The tough part is leaving my wife with the 6 kids and having to work while I am gone. It will be tough on all of them and especially my wife but I know they will be fine it is just knowing I am not there to help with the day to day issues and childcare. Not looking for any advice or anything just a post to let out my thoughts I guess :LOL:

sounds like you need to download SKYPE into your computers

i talk to friends all over the world with it
it is also what our military uses to to keep in contact with family, nothing quite like actually hearing a friendly voice & type at the same time, if you want, make sure your wearing clothes if your on video with your boss

hardly any lag time either
i have talked to friends in Canada, England, New Zealand, & Australia at the same time
my english speaking is good, trying to understand 4 women from all the countries can get comical
I really like Skype

You make it sound like is on the far side of Africa or something

There is a military base there and I am overseeing some Electrical upgrades. I work for DND as an Electrical Contract Coordinator so I have some contractors going up to do some work and need to be there to inspect and all the boring stuff.

I do have skype the internet up there isn't the best and skype is quite sketchy up there. This isn't the far side of Africa that is for sure.

Average rainfall is 150 centimeters, snowfall 28 centimeters and there is generally a breeze, most often out of the southeast.

This is like 5 FEET of rain.

Conditions can become severe without warning and Masset has registered wind gusts to 160 km/h (100 mph). http://www.massetbc.com/assets/image...clearpixel.gif

I believe that i read that one of the islands is called WINDY ISLAND

maybe that is why the ferry going to Alaska travels on the channel side of the island & not the ocean side of it

I have only been there once before but lucked out had 5 days of sunshine. The seafood up there is amazing scallops the size of small plates. I hear the beach is busy after a big storm with all the food that washes ashore

Well, I wish you luck! BTW, you should come visit me, it is only an extra 1300 miles up here!
