Better city than highway milage
This truck is frustrating me. I have a 48km drive to work 42 of that is highway. It's pretty well flat straight highway with one small hill that goes over a train. I set the cruise at 110kph. Yet highway it averages at 13 to 14mpg which sucks. Then I hit the city for my last 6 kms and the average will actually improve with the city driving. In the city I can get 16 to 17mpg. Why is this backwards? I didn't buy the truck for fuel economy but Ram sure bs'ed their mpg numbers.

is your eco kicking in on highway?

RansRAM 11-11-2012 09:01 PM

That sounds very weird, mine is the exact opposite.

Eco seems to kick in about half the time on the highway. I just had an oil change at the dealer done and I'm pretty sure they flashed the ecu cause the shift patterns seemed to change a bit and my fuel economy has actually seemed to be worse since then.

Is your drive uphill, in the snow, both ways?

At 110 kh/m (~70 mph), instantaneous MPG is about 22-25 mpg for me.

lol it acts like it is. I run it in 2wd most of the time only in 4wd auto if the roads are bad. Those days I can kind of understand crappy milage. But it's a pretty level drive. The only hill that should affect it I usually turn off the cruise and let it coast up the hill a bit and catch my speed again once we're on flat ground.

I've just really started to notice the backwards economy between city and highway lately and thought wait this is wrong... I usually hit rush hour as soon as I'm in the city and it's stop and go for those few kms. So it makes no sense that it shows better milage then.

Hey CherryRam; I'd say bring your truck back to your service department and have them verify your complaint on the freeway mpg deal. Just today, I did a 190 mile round trip with my ERS set on 6th gear and averaged 22.5mpg at speeds between 70-75mpg on cruise control. I have just over 8000 miles on my truck and I must say for my 4x4 Crew Cab with the 3.55's, I'll take this kind of highway mileage in my Hemi over anyother V8 any day of the week.

Something isn't right. Your highway mpg should be close to 20mpg.

Grubrunner 11-11-2012 11:31 PM

Regardless of ALL factors [Economy Mode, MDS, flat terrain, etc...] you should be getting a LOT better than your posted MPG on the highway/interstate.

That's just pathetic!

Something's clearly wrong somewhere. Pay your dealership a visit ASAP.

I think I better. I can understand that it goes up when I let it sit and idle for a few before I take off but even if I reset it on the highway I can't get anything better than 15mpg tops. It's at 13'000kms on the odometer now.
