Are yours installed with nut-serts up under teh rocker panel? If so, it is usually due to the nut-serts not being compressed enough when they were installed. You can pick up new ones, drill out the old and re-install properly and probably not have another problem with them.

I had the same issue. The only difference is when mine finally broke loose it caused stress cracks in the rocker panel around where the nutcerts are. I filed a claim with dodge and it was denied due to a dent in one running board even though both side were doing it. They also told me that they had no other claims on this issue. Personally, I think it is a stupid way to mount something a person is going to be stepping on.

well they are going to love me then..........

OEM steps were removed before I took delivery of the truck. 5 months later I put Bestop boards on it.

I sent some pics to the dealer, they asked me to bring it in. On the way there, I hit a bump, the step dropped. D'oh.......lucky the wiring for the motor held it up.

I have two buddies, one with a 10' and one with an 11', both with the same issue, the one with the 2011 went through a deep mud rut and it pushed the step up far enough that it split the rocker wide open where they anchor, he had 1500 miles on his truck.......good grief.....quality built seems to be a thing of the past.

I am glad that my nerf bars are mounted the way that they are
i have run over curbs & bottomed out several times

I took mine off 2 weeks after i bought the truck, did not like the way they mount at all. I also am having some custom side steps/rock sliders built that mount to the frame to resolve the issue.

Which steps are we talking about?

I just ordered the Ram stirrup style steps (item 6 on Page 6).

Okay, the steps came in.

I installed the first one (front left) and was able to flex the inner rocker panel by pushing down on the step just with my hand while still lying under the truck.

I slowly & gently stepped onto the step with one foot while still holding some of my weight with one hand on the A pillar grab handle. The step flexed down visibly and when I checked underneath, it had bent the inner rocker enough that it's visible.

There is no way this would hold up during regular use with anyone stepping quickly onto the step and heaving themselves into the truck.

I removed it and boxed up both pairs of steps - I'll be returning them to the dealership tomorrow.

Not too impressed...

Yeah that wasn't a very brilliant idea deciding to build factory steps that connected to the rockers, mounting them to the frame is the only way to go.
