4.7 help

i have a 2002 reg cab 2wd short bed with a 4.7 truck has 93k on it and the motor is locked up
im tring to figure out what to do at this point
not sure if the motor can be rebuilt
i have found new long blocks for around 1800
junkyard motors for around 1500
buit i have also read that the 4.7 is not a very good motor in the since that dodge did not design the cams very well
So im also considering going to a hemi 5.7 but assume id also have to change the ECM wiring harness and trans
any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated in helping make my decition on which route to go

You won't need to change the transmission in order to swap to a Hemi. What exactly do you mean by "Dodge didn't design the cams very well"? I'm unaware of a single cam failure in the 4.7.

i read a few blogs stating one of the issues with the early 4.7 is the the lack of oiling ports for the valves causing valve and head failular maybe it was miss stated

good to find out about the trans im kinda leaning towards a hemi swap
thanks

Hemi and 4.7L use same transmission. It's a big job though, Especially in an 02 when I don't believe the hemi existed. It'd be painstaking to make it run correctly.

The 4.7L is not a bad engine. Most of what you read online is due to poor maintenance. Most of who buy the smaller v8 engine are non enthusiasts and don't do regular maintenance, then since they don't know what they are talking about they say the engine is at fault(couldn't have been the fact that the oil had never been changed...right?).

I'd rebuild it if salvageable, or buy a junkyard engine. And while it's out put some upgrades into it performance wise, it's not that expensive. I'd mainly look at headwork on the early 4.7L.

Don't believe ANYTHING you read on the internet....except what is on here that is.

really appreciate the input sounds as though a rebuild or 4.7 replace is the way to go
i will definatly look it to proformance upgrades with the rebuild or replacement great advise thanks

check out airram.com, they sell a lot of stuff for the early 4.7L. I'd look for heads(they are $$ though) or get headwork done. And cams but they are hard to find.

quick question how do i tell if i have a 16T crankshaft tone or 32T crankshaft tone
it seems the vin is the same for both

I'm not sure. I believe member superiorstyles would know that.

I have an 02 4.7L and have had some minor problems but nothing that would call the 4.7L bad. I would suggest an 08 long block from Jasper.
