Advice For Buying A Used Ram
Pretty much everyone looking to buy a used Ram is going to kick the tires, open and close the doors and give it a basic once over before buying. Below is a list of things I would recommend having checked by a competent technician before buying a used Ram (or any vehicle for that matter).

1) Inspect the steering and suspension components. Unusual wear patterns in the tires can be good indicators of potential problems.

2) Leakdown test the engine. A compression test will do in the event the cost of a leakdown is prohibitive. Reading the removed plugs will also tell you how the cylinders are burning and if plug replacement is needed. This may be skipped if the vehicle is low mileage and under factory warranty, but do so at your own risk.

3) Check the fluid level, condition and clutch volume indexes if you're buying a model with an automatic transmission. This is a good indicator of the condition of the life left in the transmission and how well it has been maintained.

4) Check the condition and level of differential, transfer case, and manual trans fluids. Also check for u-joint issues.

5) Check the condition of the coolant with a hydrometer.

6) Check the flash level of any modules and see if any updates are needed.

7) Check for open recalls.

8) Inspect for signs of the vehicle being wrecked. Carfax is great, but not all damage to a vehicle gets reported.

9) Check for rust or other forms of corrosion while under the vehicle.

10) Load test the battery and check the charging system for proper operation.
