Is limited slip additive needed?

I need to change the diff fluid in my 3.92 limited slip rear end. I know the manual says the Mopar additive for limited slip is required, but I notice that some of the gear oils (Lucas) says no additives are needed. Should I go ahead and use the additive anyway? Is there such a thing as too much additive?

Would you take a chance on a $600+ repair to save a few bucks on additive? Me neither.

So the answer to the question is...?

I know royal purple states that it already has a LSD additive so adding the Mopar friction modifier would just be added insurance?

No. But if I knew for certain that the lube already had it I wouldn't add more. That's why I went and bought a bottle today. The recommended dosage is 2-5% of the total volume so you could apparently overdo it. I'll make sure the lube I buy is not the "no additives needed" kind.

I would check out what you can get through Amsoil. Discount auto performance is a dealer and a vendor on here.
