lower engine knock
ever since i got my truck 4 years ago sometimes (most of the time) when i start my truck cold, and i dont mean cold weather just a cold start, theres a bottom end knock for a while till i guess the oil cycles. i have no issues at all with it i was just wondering if anyone has ran into the same thing. i live in oklahoma and i have made two trips to florida and back and never had any engine trouble. runs like a new truck still

You may be hearing a little piston noise. Mine does the same thing until the engine warms up and the pistons expand to their normal size in the cylinders.

never heard of that one before. i guess really its more of a clatter type of noise than a knock. it worried me when i first started noticing it but that was almost 4 years ago and theres still nothing acting up.

Mine has done it every winter for 5 years now and it's still going strong (relatively speaking anyway).

are you sure its not lifter tick? mine does it every time i start mine and goes away after it warms up a bit. its pretty common

Mine had a similar sound coming from the engine, it was an 03 ram 1500. Brought it to two of my mechanic friends who worked at the dealership and they both agreed that it was the crankshaft bearing that was going or gone and that the crankshaft itself was moving around. They both suggested that I didn't drive the truck for long periods of time because anything could go wrong next. Hope that was helpful, so I traded my old truck in for a new 2013 ram sport.

Yeah it's not a lifter tick. It's definitely bottom end. Just a clattering clacking noise lol best way I can explain it in words. Only does it for a minute or two and stops. It only does it at a cold start. Like when I start it to go to work in the morning and it's been sitting since 4 or so the day before without gong anywhere. Doesn't bun a drop of oil or anything.
