Cold Air Intake info needed

I just bought a 2013 Laramie 5.7.....Was thinking of adding a cold air intake. I know nothing about this....more HP sure....what can I expect out of MPG? Driving normal of course. And which one do you suggest?

Thanks!

Steve

Hi, congratz buying a great truck!! I bought a volant CAI, love the looks, awsome sound at WOT.. But needs some work in fit and finish... Hear good things about the Vararam, but it is not my taste.. It hides the hemi :)... I have bought the S&B intake and it should arive any day now, gonna sell my volant!

Grubrunner did a great review on the S&B intake !

Another vote for S&B! Great CAI, easy install and looks great! Also performs very well!

For a cheap filter on a stick (which is what most of them are), check out Volant's Fast Fit 5 kit. This one has caught my attention due to price. It's way less than similar designs (K&N, Airaid, etc.). For the sealed systems, S&B seems to be the new favorite. Vararam seems to make the most power? Pick the one you like. Pay close attention to the filter design and maintenance.

Steve the percentage of HP increase (6-10) sort of thing won't blow your mind. You'll notice a much better throttle response, better breathing at high altitudes (something over looked as a positive CAI feature) and expect to pick up around 1.5 mpg (ish). You'll hear a little more zing zing at throttle loads - and the S&B intake photo'd & posted appears to have a nice direct intake tube.
You won't go wrong with any aftermarket CAI. I have a strong preference for the "double stack" filter type, as opposed to the plastic cap.

The only difference you may notice is the sound and looks. The stock air box is a very good design not much different than most enclosed CAIs. I believe you will get the same results with a high flow drop in filter. Lots of hype over CAIs and unless you are doing some major high performance mods the expense is hardly justified. That being said I still like the looks and sound and that alone might make the purchase worth it. I love the S&B design the best. Had the K&N for 8 years on my last truck and it made a noticeable difference due to the very poor stock box. I have a K&N drop in filter now but I am having a hard time wanting to purchase that S&B for the looks alone.

I'm hearing that 2013 5.7 has some wiring in the way for aftermarket CAI installation. Not sure how accurate that is. Anyone know for sure?
