new tires

on my 02 Ram 1500 4X4 I am getting to replace the tires ,I currently have 265x65x20s amd was thinking of going to 285s but I would have to put a 1/4" spacer behind the stock wheel just to maintain the 3/8s" space between the tire and the upper joint , I just found out that some of the on tire dealers have tire wheel packages that would cost almost as much as the replacement 20s as a set of tires and wheels would cost , now if I go with a tire and wheel package I think I would like something in the range of 35/12.50/17 :4-dontknow: looking at my brake package I don't think I could go any smaller than 17" due to brake clearance , so my main question is do I just put 20s on or do I go with 17s??? to get more sidewall to let my tires down in the off road , Thank's for any info of criticism .

If you plan on offroading go with 17's or 18's with out a doubt. And about a 0 offset, -12 if you want them to stick out and run flares.
