Oil change 1998 Ram 2500

Time has come to change the fluids on ye 'ol Ram. Got 155k miles on the clock now. I've been reading up on various oils but it seems the 15W40 is the way to go, my question is semi or fully synthetic oil?? Also going to change transmission and transfer box fluids, is ATF +4 the right oil?
Help a noob :)

What have you been running in it up to now? Why Change from what you have been using? I use 10-40 Dino oil, with no issues at all. That is what the PO used. Mine only has 76,000 miles.

i was wondering if i could use Delco 20-40w in my truck since i can get it for free.

You mean Delo Chevron oil? If so heck yes. First it is free, & second it is a very good oil. Back in the day I was a mechanic for one of the largest core drilling companies. That was all we used in diesels, gas, pumps you name it.
You should be OK with that weight in Idaho.

I have no idea what oil is in there atm, I only had the car for a short while.

I would use a good 10-40 dino oil. With 155K I wouldn't use a synthetic. I have run synthetic once in a new truck I bought. But I can not see where synthetic does anything. I have run many engines 200K on dino oils. The cost of synthetic vs dino I can't see where it is worth it. Plus on older or higher mileage engines it finds places to leak where dino oil won't.

ya my phone decided to throw an "E" in there but yes Delo. Ya its been getting down to 12 degrees here but i might throw a quart of like 5w to thin it up a bit. thanks for the reply. im sitting at 199k miles so i wont dare go to syn. and it has a small leak somewhere (quart low....but hasnt dropped any more) and the valves flutter when cold so it should quiet them right up.

Haven't been around busy with Christmas. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. Happy New Year to all.
You give me a lot of encouragement. My 99 2500 4x4 QC only has 78,000 miles on it. So it looks like I may never have to buy another truck in my life time. I'm in my 60s now.
I don't think throwing in a quart of 5w will do much but it won't hurt.
