I have a 1998 Ram 1500 Laramie. Picked this up a few weeks ago from a used lot - it's started having a problem with sputtering and bucking on acceleration this morning.
The mechanics at the lot DID cut out the catalytic converter and weld a solid pipe. There is no O2 senor bypass - is this the problem?
There are several potential causes and this is one of them. Is the MIL on and what codes are stored in the PCM? Another cause could be a leaking intake plenum pan gasket. Then there's the usual lack of maintainence issues such as old plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Other defective parts could be an ignition cooil breaking down or a sensor going bad.
