lift advice please

Hey y'all. Im a newbie to the forum with a new to me used 02 1500 SLT 4x4. This isnt my first dodge. But ive never lifted one before and i would like some advice. Its stock set up with 32" nitto terra grapplers, on the street that's fine. But i dont stay on the road often, i plan on being able to take this truck out in the swamps where i do my hunting, and playing in the mud. I would at least like to level it but i woild really like to put about 6" of lift under it. Any way to do this for under $1000? Im gonna do the work myself but i really dont wanna put too much into it seeing as i have an $8000 loan to pay off. Any and all help and advice is much appreciated

Leveling is free, just crank the torsion bars.
As far as a lift goes, if you're looking for clearance that will come from the tires so you might be able to get away with a cheap body lift to clear larger tires. A suspension lift wont happen for under 1K.

i'm running into the same problem. i have a 02 ram with 33" generals grabber 1st gen. people have said that when you turn the torsion key to much that it could go through the floor board, if you hit a rut or big hole? please let me know what ya think.
thanks

Ive had plenty of friends crank torsion bars till there aint no threads left then turn around and beat the piss out of the truck. Never seen or heard of one blowin out and comin through the floor board.

You can always get aftermarket "leveling" torsion bars so you dont have to crank them to a stiff point.

Stock or aftermarket it will require the same amount of pre-tension ("force") to lift the truck. Aftermarket keys will not magically reduce the force (pre-tension/Load) required to suspend the truck, let alone raise it above stock.. Physics is Physics. ..

alright thanks guys. ill posted s pic after i turn the torsion keys. one more question. which do ya think is the best suspension lift?

ramrunner02 10-15-2013 09:26 PM

i know its been a while since ive been on here but do all body lifts require stretching/ lengthening the metal brake line at the master cylinder?

DO NOT put on a body lift if you wanna take it offroad...Just put a 5" RCX lift and 35s on mine pic does it no justice tho

Make sure you get an alignment after you tignten the torsion bars...also don't crank them all the way it makes the ride pretty stiff..id recommend tightening it all the way then go back about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn
