Maintenance Troubles, please help!
I am noticing a loss in power, with a drop in mpg, with a knocking or kind of sounds like its misfiring under the truck. I can also feel the tapping in my seat and it only occurs when the truck sits in park and the trucks idle drops to 500 rpm when it is usually around 610. Also at time when I first run the truck it has problems shifting from 4th to 5th. Please help thanks.

Any codes in the PCM?

No codes at all I keep checking and still no codes. So far I have replaced the MAP sensor and the PCV valve and no improvement.

I'd be inclined to look at the data for the O2 sensors and see if they're sluggish and need replacing.

I took the O2 sensors off and tried to clean them but is there anyway I can test them to check their performance or to see if they are even working.

You can if you have a scan tool that will show you the live data stream. You can watch the voltages and switching rates to see what they're doing.

I have a regular code reader not a scanner so is there any other ways to know if the o2 sensors are going bad?

RamTech 01-09-2013 08:18 PM

Not really, other than throwing a code.

Besides the o2 sensors what else do you think the problem could be?

A broken flex plate could cause the cam/crank signal to be out of whack and you'd have these symptoms. This is actually a better fit than the O2 sensors because this would explain the knocking noise. Reading a large difference (more than 5 degrees) in the cam/crank difference in the data stream will tell you if you need to pull the trans and check the flex plate.
