clicking sound?

Ive just recently started hearing a clicking noise just as soon as i step on the accelerator. Sounds like a relay click and is coming from drivers side lower left. I thought it might have been tuner related but i uninstalled tune to factory settings and could still hear clicking noise. Anybody got any thoughts? Thanks for any help!

what motor? I know about the 4.7. I have owned two of them. The 2009 click was worse than my 2010. I got this motor as I expect the Hemi will have problems up the road running on fewer cylinders on cruise. This technology is old school and never worked out very well the first time they started this. Also the 4.7 runs on all eight cylinders with each getting the same amount of wear. This engine has problems and you have to cover you A$$ on the warranty. Change oil every three thousand at the dealership. I have found most Dodge Dealerships lie out their A$$. But to keep the warranty you have to abide. I have been told many excuses about this ticking noise. I suspect it is an engineering flaw in the oiling system. I have read many complaints on this motor. They sludge up very no matter what. Gather this information all over the internet. When your motor blows their are lemon law attourneys that will work on a percentage. I turned my 2009 in for the same reason. I baby this 2010. It doesn't use two quarts of oil like the 2009 did between oil changes but i do get a ticking sound at times. I baby this truck and it may not blow. If it does I will go for another truck.

I dont think it has anything to do with oil, thanks for the input though. Not an engine issue for sure. Not the Hemi "tick", definitely a relay clicking. Only happens when I am at a dead stop, and soon has i hit the gas pedal to accelerate I hear "click". Just a one time click. Doesn't happen again until a come to a complete stop and repeat. I don't hear any "clicking" noises when I am cruising along on the highway. Anyone got any other ideas???:4-dontknow:

Just curious do you have defroster mode selected ? is it a noise from the A/C clutch at idle? or Idler pulley that goes away on higher rpm's?

No definitely not that sound either. I know the sound you are describing and thats not it either. I did shut off all the accessories just to eliminate all that stuff. Sound coming from driver's side of firewall down by the E-brake. Anyone know if there are some relays located down there?

I have the same click...i posted lat year about it, and it seemed i was the only one with it. i agree with you, it is def. a relay cycling IMO, and def. coming from teh left kick panel...however, i noticed mine more when i release the brake pedal than depress the accelerator...undoubtedly though, likely the same noise.

RamTech, are you able to help us?

Never heard of this issue before but it sounds like something activated by wide open throttle. I'd really need to have a look around in that area of the truck to see what could be doing it and go from there. It's not unusual for the A/C compressor to shut off during WOT to provide maximum power but since it's TIPM controlled, it seem unlikely you'd hear it inside.

interesting...i cant speak for the OP, but my issue is def. not related to WOT.

i always have it is under normal driving conditions and def. is a relay cycling IMO. at first, i thought it had something to do with the brake pedal. its seems whenever i engage the break pedal while driving, but let off the brake without making a complete stop, and get back on the gas that i hear the click. very subtle, but there. i thought i had a faulty relay or something, but everything seems to work fine, and the dealership couldnt hear it when i took it in.

Thanks primo, for making me not feel like I'm on an island here! I have noticed on occasion it was/is related to the pressing of brake pedal as well. I agree too, it doesn't have anything to do with WOT. I can put the slightest of pressure on the accelerator and I get the "click". I havent had it into dealer yet, but I am sure I will have about as much success as you did. Truck doesnt seem to run abnormally either. Just out of curiosity primo, do you have your engine tuned?

primo spaghetti 01-20-2013 03:35 PM

nope no tuner....

ill bet RamTech figures it out...
