crazy heat problem

i recently bought a 94 ram half ton with a v6. the heater blows cold to slightly warm air at best. it has a newer water pump and rad. i replaced that t stat with a 195 unit. when that truck is warm the gauge reads just above 200, the top hose and both heater hoses feel warm and all about the same temp but the lower hose stays cool to touch, i removed tha new rad cap and the antifreez is cool enough i can put my finger in it with no discomfort. im not real up on dodge as it is the first one i have owned in 20 years.

any ideas?

That problem has heater core written all over it.

It could be a slightly clogged heater core, its fairly easy to unclog it. It could also be the vacuum actuate flap that controls the temp from the heater core. You can use that radiator flush they sell at the auto parts store to clear up the heater core or stick a flexible rod through the core. Flush it out with water afterwards.
