Towing Travel trailer while hauling Harley

Hi all, Im trying to figure out how to bring my Harley with me on vacation this year. I have a 2012 Ram 2500 Crew Cab with the 6'4' bed and tow a 30 foot travel trailer. In order to fit the Harley in the bed I would need to leave the tailgate down. Unfortunatley this would interfere with the trailer tongue jack. The trailer will weigh about 6000 lbs with all of our crap on board. Ive thought about a hitch extender but not sure of the weight ratings on those. I'm also not sure if its safe to have the rear wheel of the bike on the tailgate for 300 miles. Bike weighs about 750 lbs. I've done the math and I'm well within the GVWR. Any imput would be appriciated!

Just loading and unloading seems like a pretty hairy proposition. I don't think the weight of the bikes back wheel on the tailgate would be a problem. Have you considered chainging the trailer jack to a fold up type that would allow the tailgate to remain down?

I thought about that. I would have to either find a way to mount in the center of the toungue where the current jack is or use two, one on each side so the weight is distributed equally when its parked. I have weight distibution bars that may get in the way. Your right, it does sound scary loading and unloading, that tailgate is pretty high! I was planing on using a tri-fold ramp so I could have both feet down and I'm still not sure the bike wont bottom out as I cross over the tailgate. I was hoping someone may have experience with this.

I do think the bike will bottom out. When we load Harleys here at the shop, we raise them on our alignment lift and then back the truck under it and roll it into the truck bed. I would say a savvy metal worker can fab up a mount in the center that would work for you.

Thanks, sounds like loading and unloading may be my biggest challenge.

You might look into something like this to help you load and haul your bike. Im planning to build something similar for my Harley.

Also, what are the tailgate cables rated at? Any chance of the cables giving out and the entire tailgate dropping with the bike?
